The moment my boots touched the ground, the palace doors flew open. I need you to meet me at the pack hospital right now!’ I say as I race down the stairs. “Please don’t let me lose our pup. The third leaned back in his chair with a lazy smile, like he’d been waiting for this. “Gentlemen,” Rufus said, his hand firm on my lower back. “This is Bronte.” The air in the room shifted, their eyes moved over me like they were hungry. I felt exposed even though I was fully clothed. One of them the one with the green eyes raised his glass. “So this is the famous stepdaughter. Rufus hasn’t shut up about you.” My face burned. Rufus chuckled beside me, pulling me closer. “She’s nervous, be gentle with her at first.”he said

As soon as Dr. Zita entered the living room, Stephanie’s face lit up with a warm smile. She hurried over, wrapping her arms around her friend. "Zita! It’s so good to see you," Stephanie said, with a huge smile Dr. Zita returned the embrace with equal warmth, stepping back to look Stephanie over. "You look good, Stephanie. How are you holding up?" “It's been hectic, but I can't complain," Stephanie replied, Dr. Zita’s gaze softened. "I’m glad you cane. And Kayla? She’s here too, right?"
