Author's Note: February 23, 2023 Hello, lovelies! This is Book 2 of the INTO THE DARKNESS Saga and will feature Lucius and Patrea. If you haven't finished Beneath Her Darkness: The Alpha's Little Demon, I highly suggest you finish it first, as I will not be explaining how they got to this point. I'll pick up where they left off in Book 1 and move forward with only flashbacks to some important details. Otherwise, you may continue reading, and I hope you will enjoy this one as well.

Whatever she was… she was familiar in a way that gnawed at his spine, burrowing down into the places he didn’t let anyone touch. Malick’s boots echoed down the narrow passage as he slipped through an unmarked door into the Deep Archives, a restricted part of the Academy most students didn’t even know existed. The air hit him immediately—stale and heavy, reeking of spell-burnt paper and old secrets. Dust motes drifted like ash in the thin strands of light that managed to break through the cracks. He lit a flame between his fingers. No torches. No magic crystals. The school didn’t want you down here. Which was exactly why he was.

“Fine. You want a different story? You want a mystery? Then find the Architect. Book Two: The Silent Kingdom. Coming... never.” The Anchor didn't explode. It simply turned into a regular, non-vibrating rock. The sky didn't turn to gold; it stayed a normal, dark blue. I collapsed into the dirt, my lungs heaving. Kieran and Rowan were there in a second, pulling me up. "Is it over?" Rowan asked, his voice cautious. "For now," I said, wiping soot from my forehead. I looked at the horizon, where the first real light of dawn was finally appearing. "But she said something. 'The Architect.' There’s someone else in this world, someone who isn't the Author."

Stone answered, “She is Alpha Tolvar’s niece, from Big Creek Pack. Her name is Misty. We caught her hanging around the front of her house this morning, before your usual run.” I asked, “I would like to sit in on that interrogation.” Then I looked up at Isaac’s grinning face, “I promise I will leave for the gross stuff. If I don’t cause it, I don’t want to watch it.” All of the guys laughed and Isaac answered, “That’s fine, love.” Then he asked the guys, “Is there anything else on the dark witch coven?” Alex answered, “We found a big rogue encampment that we think they may be using. I think we should get some warriors together to get rid of them.” Isaac asked, “Are they on our territory?”

I finished, breath catching. He nodded. “A doorway we’ve been fighting to contain ever since.” Lightning sparked faintly at my fingertips, unbidden. Not from anger. Just… nerves. Destiny. The weight of it all. Alaric reached out, fingers brushing mine with calm steadiness. “You don’t have to read it now,” he said gently. “But I thought you should know. If we’re going to keep this kingdom safe… it’s part of your story now.” I looked down at the spell book. The silver clasp glimmered in the low light.

The air was thick with cracks forming. As the last torch sputtered low, Rowan slipped from the chamber, needing space. She climbed the spiral steps until she reached the high windows overlooking Arcadia. The sky beyond burned red with twilight, streaked with jagged bolts of lightning. Clouds churned like smoke, heavy and restless. Rowan pressed her hand against the cold stone sill. Mistara’s words curled through her like smoke. The fire in your chest is waking things older than dragons. She hugged her arms around herself, staring into the storm.
