Obsession isn’t something you choose. It chooses you. Wraps around your soul like a vice, squeezing until there’s nothing left but the sickness of wanting. It seeps into your blood, replacing logic, making you something… else. Something monstrous. And fuck… I like it the more I watch her.

His obsession... how could it be possible that I was capable of becoming his obsession? I sprang off the stool, disoriented, my movements aimless, like a leaf caught in a whirlwind. Daren's firm grip on my arm halted my aimless trajectory, granting me a precious pause, a chance to reorient myself. "Elena?" He spoke, concern etched in his features. "Are you okay? I've noticed your peculiar reactions, the unnecessary clumsiness. You need to know, I can help. Just trust me and tell me what's going on."

There was simply nothing normal about him, so of course breaking into a woman's house wasn't considered a crime in his dictionary. "Then what is?" "Obsession." The answer came so easily it stole the next breath from my lungs. His head tilted slightly. "I'm obsessed with everything about you, Little Cub." His gaze lingered on mine. "Every breath. Every sound. Every sweet little treat you put between those pretty lips." My stomach tightened. "You're insane." "Already covered that." I hated how I almost smiled. I chewed the inside of my jaw, forcing myself to focus on something other than him

I never let my gurads down in front of anyone but he was making me feel strange. I couldn't figure out my feelings then but I just articulate that it was just an attraction. He was actually too sweet and the gesture of cake and Vine on my Dad's birthday was a whole new level!! An upheaval of emotions began circulating inside of me. Is that man obsessed with me? The face of the stranger, which gives me a familiar sensation, appears in my mind. I shake my head, forcing out that stranger's image in my mind. “Then, do I know him before?”

“Yes.” “You knew I was going to research you and prepare to betray you.” “Yes.” “And you hired me anyway.” “Because you’re the only person I’ve ever met who doesn’t need me to survive. You’d survive without me. You’d survive without anyone.” He reached up and touched her face like he was remembering what skin felt like. “And the moment I realized that, I understood I was going to lose my mind if you left.” She understood, in that moment, what obsession actually meant. It wasn’t passion. It wasn’t love in any traditional sense. It was the recognition that someone could exist without you and choosing to make them your reason to exist anyway.

After a quick hello and pleasantries, I had gone the same way I had seen Dave and that woman leave but I couldn’t find them and on passing the restroom, I had decided to ease myself but every stall I touched the handle was locked and I could hear whisperings in them, all but one but it was locked as well and I decided to knock.
