I said. “Yeah well now I’m pissed because why have you not eaten. I’m very sure that twat Ife is responsible for this. I’m sorry baby..” he said and put his hand on my face. I almost flinched away but man, I was trying very hard to be very careful with this man. He was going to snap if I did anything stupid. In his eyes I could see someone who was deranged. His mind was broken at this point. He was troubled. This frantic pursuit of me was not because he loved me but it was much deeper than that. He was obsessed. And obsession could make people do crazy things that they in their right mind would not normally do.

“You were the one who insisted on caving in to so-called emotions by telling me you fell in love with the Hale boy.” Amara laughed then—low, sharp, humorless. “Is this what we’re talking about here? And not the fact that your so-called partner in Gideon actually attempted to murder me? And all for a stupid document and weird obsession.” She spat the words. They landed between them like glass. Richard stood up fully now. The casualness fell away. He walked toward her, slow and deliberate, boots crunching softly against gravel. He stopped close enough that she could smell his cologne—expensive, familiar, nauseating.

My brother was pacing the room while Sergey watched all of us silently, but he looked strung out like a damn rubber band. Then my eyes landed on the two new women I had never seen before. One was a Latina and the other I can’t figure out what or where she is from. She has one of those ordinary but not so ordinary features. Then it hit me, the tense atmosphere, the broken, disheveled look on Leo’s face, and the air of consumed grief. “WHAT.THE.FUCK.HAPPENED.TO.LOLA?” I said, growling even though deep down I felt like choking and my heart was like being torn out of my chest.

“It seems that a week prior to Aubrey’s attack there was a deposit for twenty thousand dollars made to an off-shore account made to his name. Two days after the attack, another twenty grand was deposited. He was arrested a week later when there was an anonymous tip as to his location.” The implications cause my head to spin. Nelson wasn’t just a crazy fan with an obsession; he was hired to attack Aubrey.

“I think sometimes people don’t realize how deep they’ve fallen into it. It starts small—checking their social media, driving by their house ‘just to see.’ But over time…” He sighed, the sound heavy with the weight of experience. “It can escalate. The person might start following them or showing up unannounced, thinking they’re being romantic or that it’s a sign of how much they care. But that’s the thing about obsession—it warps your perception. What you think is love or concern might actually be… something darker.”

I breathed. "I’m obsessed," he corrected, his thumb tracing the line of my jaw with a chilling tenderness. "There’s a difference. Insane people don’t plan for ten years to take back what was stolen from them. Obsessed people don't stop until there is nothing left of their enemy but ash."

"Jesus, this means this bastard has been stalking you for almost eight years??" Jared cursed under his breath, slamming his fist onto the desk. “Baby, are you sure you don’t remember ever meeting him there?” he asked her, his voice soft. “People with obsessive tendencies like this don’t just fixate on someone randomly. There has to be something that pulled him to you.”
