Achilles clenches his jaw. “I haven’t heard about them for a decade.”

Still thinking about last night and how she had foolishly given herself to a complete stranger, one she was thankful was not a thief, her phone suddenly began ringing and Valerie rushed to pick up her phone. It was her best friend Maya calling, her jaws nearly dropped when she recollected she was supposed to be out working late at the restaurant where she works. She had only planned on taking few hours off to spend with Sam because it was valentine's Day. She placed the phone a few inches away from her ear in order not to have her ear drums bursted because she knew exactly who Maya was. "Valllllllll" was the next word that came from the phone in a very loud tone.

This couldn’t be good. Cohen instantly relaxed, “Thank you, Valentine, for keeping Future Alpha King Colt’s mate safe until we could get here. We are in your debt.” Valentine smiled widely at this. Can we give him the energy he needs?”

I could hear my ringing tone blasting from the other end of the room, how far did I drop it last night? It was Nathan who was calling me, I frowned as my eyes combated the caller ID, and I was unable to answer the phone call. I remember Travis said something about Guillotine, if I remember correctly, Guillotine is the author of the book Valentine’s Day. I picked up my phone and surfed through the internet. “Valentine’s Day,” I said aloud as I typed it into the search bar, it took a few seconds to load, and when the information came. “February 14, is also known as Valentine’s Day.”

Valentine “Hi, Nick. It’s me, Valentine, again. It’s been three weeks since you haven’t returned any of my calls. I’m just worried that something bad happened to you. I’ve been visiting you every day, but your mom and sister always tell me that you went out. I just think we really need to talk, you know. Please call me back.”

Bryan hasn't texted since this morning's curt "Running late. Start without me if you want." On Valentine's Day. Our fifth anniversary. I poured a drink. Then I poured one more. The bubbles hurt my throat. I looked out the big window. The city shimmered below, thousands of tiny lights glowing like fallen stars. The room is very expensive and it beats the cost of my dress. Bryan chose it because he wanted to show our love off. "I'm sorry I've been distant. I know work has been stressful for you. I'll try harder to understand." I soliloquized, memorizing the words I've rehearsed all week.

Didn't know I was going to explain to her. "Ava, did you hear me?" she said when she realized that I was lost. "Oh yeah, I heard all you said," I replied with a smile. She was like the only family I had. I needed to let her know what was going on. "I am getting married soon to a stranger," I said in a cold and calm voice "What? Why are your parents so heartless?" she said angrily, knowing fully well that my parents were the ones who arranged the marriage. Just then, Clara Wilson walked in. "Oh! “You should probably go and hide before Valentine comes; he’s bringing the stuff.” She’s been hiding out here for close to a month now with nothing but a ticking pocket watch close to her ribs to hide her heartbeat and vanilla perfume to mask her scent. I thought she was crazy when she said she would use these, but it seems like it worked. After kissing the side of my head and sighing, she goes back into her hiding spot just as Valentine knocks on the bedroom door. He takes one look at me and shakes his head. “You two will be the death of one another,” he grumbles with a look of disappointment in his eyes, then holds up his hand. “I have what you asked for.”

Valentine breathed out, his voice rough and uneven. He reached down, his large, warm hand grabbing for mine to pull me off the wall. I pulled my hand back, tucking my arm tight against my ribs, away from his reach. Valentine's hand froze in midair, his fingers twitching before dropping back to his side. His eyes fell onto the crumpled tabloid pages sticking out of my canvas bag.

I asked,my brows pulled together. Valerie appeared shocked, she began shivering and picking at her fingers attempting to calm her nerves. “I came to bring you coffee and to know how you are feeling." Valerie replied, cocking her head to the left. “Is anything wrong?.” “ I never asked you to check up on me nor did I ask for a cup of coffee.
