I jolted awake, trembling violently as cold sweat clung to my skin. A nightmare. Only a nightmare… though Hazel remained strangely restless beneath my skin. Suddenly, the door pushed open and Dominic crossed the room in seconds, concern darkening his expression. He was beside me before I could steady my breathing, his hand closing around mine. "Are you hurt, Natalia?" "I heard you from the room beside yours.” I turned my gaze to him as I regained my composure. "I–I'm fine. It was just a nightmare," I said, brushing away strands of hair from my face.

An unread text from an unknown number. I blinked, trying to force my vision into focus. I swiped the screen. It was an image. High resolution, stark, and utterly silent. In the center of the frame was a man lying on a bed. He was pale, his eyes wide and milky, staring at a ceiling he would never see again. His chest was a ruin of crimson, a deep, jagged crater of blood that had soaked through his white undershirt and turned the sheets into a sodden, dark map. Buried deep in the center of that mess, right through the sternum, was a tactical knife—its black hilt protruding like a tombstone.

Kiva’s POV After two minutes, I watched as the color drained from Caelen’s face. “What do you mean sixty percent?” he hissed. “No—don’t close the casino. What about my other accounts? The offshore one?” A pause. “Then my credit card?” His grip tightened around the phone. Finally, he snapped. “Then what the hell do I pay you for? I’m in the middle of checking out!” He hung up. Samantha was already watching him, suspicion written all over her face.

With no knowledge of which way to go, I hit something hard and I black out. In all the 17 years of my life, that would have to be the scariest nightmare I have ever had.
