Month 1 (Weeks 1-4)
Mother: Many women do not yet realize they are pregnant. Possible symptoms include missed period, fatigue, and nausea.
Baby: The fertilized egg implants into the uterine lining. The amniotic sac forms, and the placenta begins developing. The embryo is about the size of a poppy seed.
Month 2 (Weeks 5-8)
Mother: Symptoms like morning sickness, fatigue, breast tenderness, and frequent urination are common.
Baby: Major organs and systems begin to form. The neural tube (brain, spinal cord) is well formed. Heartbeat can be detected. Limb buds appear. By the end of this month, the embryo is about the size of a raspberry.
