"Helbert! Helbert!" Little feet in flip-flops sprinted across the sand towards a young guy with long hair standing barefoot on the beach. The kid’s face lit up with joy, like seeing Helbert on the shore was the best thing that happened to him today, giving him two precious moments at once.

We should get burgers tonight from Melvin's! Sunny and Layla then put their swimsuits on. Sunny had on a high-cut red plaid-print bikini, and Beth put on a sporty purple high-leg one piece. The two friends smiled at each other, grabbed their beach towels, and headed out the door. As they walked towards the beach, the warm sand tickled their toes, and the sound of crashing waves filled their ears. Layla and Sunny found a perfect spot to lay their towels and bask in the sun's golden rays. The salty breeze kissed their skin as they soaked up the sun.

His face was all pout, and my heart flipped. “God, he’s such a menace,” I muttered. Summer leaned over to peek. “Damn. That man is weaponized. How do you say no to that face?” “I don’t,” I admitted shamelessly. *** The next morning, Summer had already left by the time I woke up, but she’d left a note: He’s probably already outside waiting for you. Before I can process my feelings, I'm interrupted by the sound of someone entering the Bensten house in a rather loud fashion: "Behold everyone, it is I! I'm back from my vacay in 'The Bahamas'! Where are ya'll at? I'm expecting gifts!" I punch my knee in frustration. He's the one that was in The Bahamas, he should be the one bringing us back souvenirs, not the other way 'round. "No offense, Bell, but I was kind of hoping that your insane brother would relocate to The Bahamas," I tell her, dismissing her previous words. I'm too distracted now to do anything but mourn over the fact that Troy Bensten is back.

What do normal people do when they come to Crete for a summer vacation? They probably post photos on I*******m with captions like "Sun, sea, sand #blessed," sip ouzo in the evenings, smash plates, and just soak up that effortless island vibe. And what am I doing? I’m covering my ears with my hands, counting prime numbers backward in my head, and trying not to lose my absolute mind. I am in a literal marathon to stay sane.

Summer Love. I didn't think the summer part mattered. Sure we did fall in love during the summer. That doesn't mean I didn't expect it to last past that. It didn't matter to me that he was Nathan Kalis's school-bad boy. To me, he was just Nathan. The man couldn't go more than ten minutes before demanding a kiss. Who always wanted me to cuddle into him. And who loved listening to me read my books out loud.

Prove that you're not a little baby anymore." Sky raised an eyebrow. "I'm not a baby anymore, Mama." Summer's cheeks puffed up.

He snickered, taking little bites from his food while staring me down. “That’s nice, I hope she doesn’t rub off her boring nature on you.” Mom joked. “Oh that can’t happen anyways.” she let out a light chuckle, looking away, I forced some food down my throat, I had long lost my appetite but didn’t want to seem rude by leaving, this was their first time here and I dinner want mom buzzing me about my attitude, she could throw me out if possible.
