Big men with sunglasses and bald spots standing around with their hands on their hips, their movements all in wide gestures—elbows out, fingers splayed. Shoulders rolling. Smiles pressed so deep across their mouths they might even have been real. They almost always had kids with them, the women and the men,

"I know we haven't known each other for long and I certainly don't deserve it, but I want nothing more than to spend the rest of eternity with you." “Yes, I have a banquet tonight. I will go back and prepare first.” It was July, the peak of summer, and as they stepped out of the restaurant the heat struck them like a heavy wall. The sudden wave of hot air pressed against their faces, so thick and suffocating it felt almost like fire. Coming out from the cool embrace of the air conditioned room, the contrast was unbearable. The beaked chorus of birds filled the summer air. Humming bees darted through the garden while the clouds latched to the unending sky. Despite the hot and torrid season, green grass was downy soft. Fans of adventurous outings, active sports game and sight-seeing will probably enjoy spending their free times during this season. However, there are still people who don’t like the humidity in this kind of season. Definitely, they keep on finding ways to quench their thirst and to beat the heat.

Every summer, we would sell out the houses to vacationers. “Alpha!” I turned to look at Ricky, my Gamma, leaning out of the door. He was motioning to me, and I sighed. Unhooking my arm from Helena, I walked over to him. “What is it, Gamma?” “So, we have most places booked through the next couple of months. Plus, we are completely booked for June, July and August already as well. The plan for the last 4th of July and the Summer Festival worked swimmingly.” He winked.

Clearing his throat to speak, he quickly changes his demeanor to Alpha in charge. “As you know, Hazel Summers’s coming-of-age ceremony and her first shift celebration are happening this weekend, which is in a few days. Along with the summer moon festival and moonlight run the following week.” Alpha Radar folded his arms over his massive chest as he spoke. His eyes give nothing away of his emotions, and his gaze never leaves mine.

The whole town participates, and only a handful of stores is open in the morning, while all are closed in the afternoon. People compete in various sports, and there is a parade. Kids make their own floats, and the best ones get rewards in various categories. In the afternoon, vendors open their stalls with games and food in the town square. In the evening, there is music, drinks, and dancing around the bonfire, and it all ends with fireworks."

The weather was just too hot outside. Charlotte creased her nose. She was not too happy about it, but she did not throw a tantrum. After breakfast, Summer went to the place that she and Dean had agreed to meet at. Summer could feel heat waves hitting her face in the late morning, even before noon. She felt as if she was inside a steamer and her back was sweating profusely after walking for just a while.
