I turned and unlocked the door, ready to go in, but Lucien grabbed my wrist.
“Mia! Tell me why you left.” His voice cracked, raw. It was filled with an unspeakable desperation.
I took a deep breath and looked at him quietly. “Lucien, have you forgotten? The day I brought you your suit… I heard everything. I stood right there and listened as you said that Summer was the one you truly cared about—that staying with me was just a sense of duty, not love.”
Lucien’s face went pale, and his lips trembled. “Those were just words—just for show! Mia, I swear, I’ve always loved you. I’ve never done anything to betray you!”
