“Together.” Hours passed as they tended to wounds and patched clothing. Each scar, bruise, and ache was a reminder of the cost of survival but also of their resilience. As night fell, the forest no longer felt menacing but protective, a living witness to their triumph. That evening, the group gathered around a small fire. Marcus spoke first, his voice lighter than it had been in weeks. “We survived. Somehow, we really made it through.” The ally nodded silently, eyes reflecting the firelight but betraying relief long restrained. Adrian and Elena exchanged a quiet glance, words unnecessary. Their shared trials had forged a bond stronger than anything the world could test.

Joyce looked expectantly at the sky. "Maybe she's gone to another world," I said. Maybe she'd gone to a world where there were no zombies. It had been a month since the zombie outbreak, and most survivors' supplies were stretched to the limit. To survive, they started risking their lives to leave the neighborhood. I watched as they were surrounded by zombies the moment they stepped beyond their gates. Still, some of them managed to break through the zombie horde and run toward the distant hope of survival.

“No matter what comes next, we endure. We survive. We protect.” I nodded. “We will endure it. We will survive it . We will protect it. And we love. Always.”

Together. But in my chest, I knew it wasn’t. Lucien’s voice, his words, his anger—it all lingered within the air, as if storming and ready to unleash. Yet even as I clung to Axel, holding on tight with my secret within, I knew there was a truth I clearly understood. The fight was not yet over. Not for him. Not for me. Not for us. And as the sunlight shifted across the room, heating us up, I whispered to myself, silently, with conviction and with fear: “We will survive this. together. No matter what.”

They hadn’t survived in spite of each other. They had survived because of each other.

They would survive or die together. One thing was clear: they would confront whatever came their way together, with an unbreakable bond. With the dust settling, they were about to embark on the next move, they came across unfamiliar risks and were filled with the hope of starting afresh.

And for the first time in months, I believed we might actually survive this. All of us. Together.

The unspoken connection between them was dangerous, yes but it was also the one thing that could keep them alive through the storms to come. For tonight, they survived. Together. And tomorrow, they would strike again.
