I picked up the letter instead, my eyes narrowing as I read the words: "By the time you read this, we are gone from this world—but not forgotten. That was new. In all my years, I had never even heard of it. “This just keeps getting messier,” James muttered, running a hand through his hair, frustration and curiosity in his eyes.

She looked breathtaking in the pictures, tanned and positively glowing, almost like she came back from a holiday. Chase, however, came back in a wheelchair. Mason hoped he suffered and that his injury was permanent. Why didn’t he die? He survived the plane crash, got kidnapped by pirates, for god’s sake – pirates of all things, and to top it off, managed to overpower them and came back a fucking hero! He threw the empty glass across the dining room. It shattered against the wall.

Kali says and walks to her room. I turn to see Marley doing the dishes. "Hey, you want some help?” I ask. "If you want to dry,” she says, so I stand and walk over to help her. "How are you doing, Marley?" I question. "I'm good. There has been so much going on with Kali and then with William getting killed she has been heartbroken, but she is strong, and she will get through this," Marley claims, proudly. "Yes, she will. I know it. Plus, she is going to be my pregnant buddy," I say casually, looking at her face for a reaction. She doesn't say anything at first, and then she catches it.

She asked Anthonio after she ended the call. “You seem close to this Captain.” “Captain is my colleague and he is also the one who saved me that day,” Marley replied. “Saved you?” She nodded. “The day I came home and met Dad's dead body and you were nowhere to be found, I ran out to the street oblivious of where I was going. I was almost hit by a car and Captain saved me that day, then he took me in and then introduced me to the agency and the rest was history.”

Martha and the others seemed to be moved by his words. There was the possibility of a miracle as long as they lived. This was not wrong. Even if the chances were slim, it was still better than giving up. As Martha thought of this, she clenched her teeth and said, “In that case, let’s wait patiently. Perhaps there will be a miracle, and I will not die here!” Kyler, who was aside, also said firmly, “Let’s wait! I’m also willing to wait! I haven’t lived enough yet. I’m willing to wait as long as there is a chance of survival!”

He went after her. The door closed behind them with a dull thud. Violet and Marek remained. The silence between them was heavier than before. Marek finally spoke. “You waited too long to tell them.” Violet nodded. “I know.” “Do you think she can survive this?” he asked. Violet looked down at the Grimoire. “I think,” she said slowly, “that survival was never the question.” Marek frowned. “Then what is?” Violet lifted her gaze toward the darkened window.

But we’d survived, together. I felt the weight of it all pressing down, the adrenaline fading just enough for reality to seep back. I was alive. Cameron was alive. My brothers were alive. We had survived Mara’s trap. And somewhere deep inside, my wolf purred, dark satisfaction rolling through me. "We were predators, hunters, and protectors. We were a force Mara had underestimated… and she had paid the ultimate price." My gaze swept the clearing, taking in the aftermath, the blood, the carnage, the chaos.

Maru was blindly touching the walls of the sewers to guide himself home. "I have to live through this. I can't leave my mother and sister. I will survive. I must survive!" Maru was keeping his hopes up. He would not die before he saw his loved ones. He had still so much to do. Maru wanted to make his mother and sister happy. To give them a life worth living for. He'd have given the world to them if he could. He wished he could see them one last time.

I slowly stood up, watching for any sign of life from Marly. Alex and I stood there, watching for some sign of life. There was no movement. Marly’s chest did not move. She did not gasp for air. She simply lay there. Lifeless. I turned to Alex, “Do something … please,” I begged, tears in my eyes. Alex looked to me, and to Marly, sorrow all over his face.

“You’re still alive! You’re safe, Sir!” Marcel lay still, and Nana left the servant’s room almost running. “I’m ... alive?” muttered Marcel as he blinked his eyes repeatedly. “How come?” He clearly remembered that he had drank the chemical until it was gone, so there was no way he could have survived. Marcel pinched his arm, and it hurt, not long after he slapped himself repeatedly on the face. And it turned out that he was indeed alive, this wasn’t a dream! To Be Continued—
