Surviving Disaster Extreme Cold Chapter 4 Novels & Stories

The forty-degree heatwave vanished instantly. Not faded. Obliterated. The temperature plummeted over sixty degrees in seconds. The wind released a deafening primordial roar as the first wave of the absolute blizzard smashed against the reinforced titanium windows of the villa. Ice exploded across the glass. Snow swallowed the city below in a blinding white abyss. The apocalypse had officially arrived. But inside our fortress, the lights remained bright, the air perfectly regulated, and the ark completely secure.

After the apocalypse, I hadn't changed a bit—I was a total brat. In the story, right before we reached the government's underground bunker, Hudson abandoned me. Without laws, the monsters roaming the wasteland were far more terrifying than the heat. I fell into the hands of raiders and met a miserable end. The sudden download of information made my head spin. As Hudson reached out to hand me the ice, I instinctively swatted his hand away. "Don't! I... I don't want it anymore." Silence fell over the RV. Maybe he was so used to my dramatic mood swings that nothing surprised him anymore. He looked at his reddened hand and shook his head in resignation.

They crash together in my mind like waves in a storm, but I need to focus somehow, need to get my head straight. Those meditation techniques I learned during my year of freedom feel so far away now, buried under all this trauma and terror. I look up carefully, searching for any sign he might come back. In a moment of desperation, I decide I need to find whatever strength I have left to get up and grab the rest of my clothes before this cold kills me. The thought of freezing to death scares me almost as much as Blaze coming back. I read somewhere that people can die from cold in temperatures way warmer than this, and I have no idea how long he plans to leave me here.

I looked to the side and saw a bag of compressed biscuits, water, and two shriveled dried red dates on a plate. When the apocalypse struck, the extreme cold came suddenly. Even Espers had a hard time dealing with the cold weather. Food and water suddenly became scarce. This was already the best food the rescue team had. Though I was still cold, my heart felt warm. It turned out Janice still cared about me. Maybe… I misunderstood her relationship with Chad? But before I could open the packaging, I heard someone outside complaining loudly. "Who's that shameless man? He's actually asking for steak and pasta! The prices of those things are astronomical!"

That surprised Mitchell until he concluded that it must have been so hot that it cauterized his flesh as it entered, thus preventing serious bleeding. It was snowing extremely hard, and the wind was beginning to whip the flakes around in all directions. For the first time, Mitchell realized that it was also very cold. He would need shelter and heat before long or he'd perish. He had often listened to his father and his Green Beret friends discuss some of their survival training and what they had endured and what they had learned. The important thing was to never give up.

I had endured because Dante held my hand and told me there would be a life after all of it. Now that life had finally come, he wanted me to hide it. “If you truly love me,” I said, “why is my child the one who has to disappear?” Dante’s expression darkened. “Don’t make it sound like that.” “But that is what you’re doing.” A few guards and staff members had started looking toward the office. Dante noticed and lowered his voice. “We’ll talk at home.” He guided me out through the private elevator. Serena followed us without being asked.

Then, she added, "We're all in this together. A downpour's coming, so we should find some supplies." She crouched before me and held my left hand. Her face was a mask of understanding. "It's all my fault. I'll help you up." I slapped her hand away in disgust. She let out a gasp and fell backward. Everyone huddled around her and shot me with dark glares. I stood up and put on a sneer. Yes, a downpour was coming. In my previous life, these asshats had only survived those two days by the skin of their teeth. I busted my ass setting up traps in the sea for a catch. The waves roared and crashed like a neverending tide. One time, they nearly swept me into the sea.

Another night passed. The apocalypse had now reached day 46. The weather remained brutal. Snow piled up to the height of two and a half floors, and with temperatures plummeting below –40°C, the snow showed no signs of melting—only becoming denser, harder, more unyielding. Yet, a significant number of humans had survived. Food shortages were growing more severe by the day, but for now, humanity still clung stubbornly to life. In the early morning, Ray stood by the window, watching the fog rapidly recede. He considered the plan for the day.

He looked shaken and hurriedly tried to push Daisy away. But at that moment… my soul gave out completely. When I opened my eyes again— I was back in the ice cave. The blizzard howled like a beast, snow piling higher and higher, weighing me down until I couldn’t even lift my head. The cold bit deep, like a thousand icy needles stabbing into my flesh. I trembled uncontrollably, blood freezing in my veins. My lashes were heavy with frost, and numbness had overtaken everything. Chunks of ice fell again and again, pounding into me. The silvery dust in the air gnawed at my body, wearing me away.

_Amelie’s POV_ The floor was cold. Way too cold but I welcomed it. It reminded me I was still alive. Still here. Santiago’s men had thrown me into my room, Not bothering to see if I survived the throw or not. My ears rang, my head throbbing but I made no effort to leave the flood and go to bed. The door creaked open behind me. I didn’t lift my head, didn't bother to finf out who had stepped in..
