I’m not sure what scares me more: the idea that I might become that figure, or that I might not. Sylvara promised training at dawn, so I pull myself from the vine-woven bed, my bare feet sinking into the cool stone floor. The sanctuary’s walls pulse with runes, their soft light guiding me through winding halls to an open courtyard where the forest canopy parts to reveal a sky streaked with pink and gold. Sylvara stands at the center, her jade-green skin shimmering as she tends to a sapling that seems to grow under her touch, its leaves unfurling like tiny hands reaching for the sun.

Rose and I woke up early, it has been my habit to wake up before the sunrise. We went down to smell the fresh morning breeze. I spoke to her in my mind. “Normally, Halea and I jog in the morning. I cannot wait to run with you in our Thalon form,” I told her “Likewise Alina, I wanted to stretch and see how I looked like,” I started to stretch and exercise a bit, I saw Nana Rosing, Halea’s house helper, “Good Morning Nana Rosing!” I greeted her while she prepared food in the kitchen.

Layla Monday morning hits me like a ton of bricks. The sun is shining hot and heavy when I roll out of bed at nearly 10:00, blinking rapidly to adjust to the startling glare. I slept like the dead. Day was slowly breaking over the Lamenta Forest, painting the sky in purple and gold hues. The morning mist clung to the gnarled trunks, muffling sounds and making the atmosphere almost surreal.
