I didn’t even notice where I was going—just kept walking, pushing open doors, passing strange furniture and exotic rugs until, finally, I found what my stomach demanded: the kitchen.

I shoved my head into the fridge, grabbing whatever was in front of me, bread, cheese, some kind of cured meat, maybe boar, maybe some exotic magical creature it didn’t matter.
I made the roughest sandwich in the world, took the first bite, and closed my eyes, trying to ignore the bitter taste of anger still stuck to my tongue.
"Wow," a deep, mocking voice cut through the silence, making me turn my head with my mouth still full. "What did that sandwich ever do to you?"
