After the Downfall
It was the only thing preventing me from the suffering I knew I’d likely be enduring otherwise.
I was beyond wondering about the reason behind it, at least for the moment as he nimbly descended what I realized was a ledge that plummeted steeply downward.
My nerves fluttered at the sight, my breathing ticking up a notch, but Silas’s now distinguishable voice spoke up, aiding me in staying calm as he said, “Breathe, baby. Nothing is going to happen to you. Close your eyes, and we’ll be down before you know it.”
I didn’t choose to shut out my surroundings, but I didn’t look down again either as Silas descended steadily, not appearing to be straining in the slightest with my added weight.
