I screamed at Darren. "I'm your wife! This is your blood! The baby will die!" "Then let it die," Darren said, looking down at me. "A bastard with tainted blood doesn't deserve to live in this world." The moment the needle pierced my skin, a burning pain spread through my veins. The drug felt like liquid fire coursing through my body.

Everybody in this city knew that I had fallen for her at first sight, getting anything she liked at auctions and buying her exotic cars without batting an eyelid. Anyone who disparaged her lost more than words; I made sure of that. In the matter of a few months, the obscure Bryant Group ballooned into one of the nation's largest conglomerates. Dorothy, at 27, became a titan of industry, admired and feared. I prided myself on having given her my whole heart, never expecting her to betray me. "Innocent? The first time?" I scoffed inwardly. Perhaps I should have realized when Rob first appeared and Dorothy's scent seemed to hang on him like an accusation that she had been tainted.

My fingers tremble as I unfold it and read the words written in his familiar handwriting. “Happy birthday, my love. I hope you will love this gift and wear it often. It will make me so happy. I love you.” That was all it said, but those words pierced through my heart like a blade. I could not stop myself from crying harder. The pain was unbearable. How could life be this unfair? How could someone who loved me so much now turn away from me because of a lie.?

The cracks in the floor glowed faintly with the same white fire still burning inside my chest. Ash forced himself into a sitting position, clutching the floor to stay upright. His movements were sluggish, but his eyes—those swirling silver-white eyes—held a clarity sharp enough to cut. “Tyla,” he rasped. “Listen carefully.” Arthur stepped forward instantly, tension rattling through him. “She’s not choosing anything until we know what the hell this ‘heart’ does.” Ash didn’t look at him. His gaze remained locked on me. “The heart is the anchor.”

He said. I glared at him then, all the cheesiness gone, before pushing him away from me. "Just so you know, I'm not sharing this cake with you." I said, picking up the delicious cake. "Sadly, this lazy-ass person loves chocolate more than you." He rolled his eyes before looking up at the sky. "One day your heart will only be mine, Anderson." It already was. 

It seems being burnt once hadn't taught me anything after all if the pain in my heart was anything to go by. I don't remember feeling this gutted by Robert's betrayal. There had been disappointment and humiliation, yes, but not this sense of total loss. Which made no sense whatsoever because I'd known Robert all my life; this Talon Avery was a total stranger, someone I hadn't even met. Yet, the sense of betrayal was strong and gut-wrenching. Talon Avery, the campus heartthrob, no use in daydreaming Skylar; he's way out of your league. But oh how I wish.

Fallon said. She wasn't lying in that aspect though. Fallon always get rid of her enemies before they can raise a finger. To her, torturing is a waste of time and energy. And somehow hearing their agonizing pains, brings out the angel in her, and that's why she's feeling sorry for the man getting tortured even if he was nothing but a betrayal to the clan. The door of the torture room opened and everyone's hearts sinks in fear as Axton enters. It was as if their hearts were being pierced with needles, just by looking at the heartless Mafia in front of them.

Troy warned. I wouldn’t eat it even if he didn’t tell me not to do it. If her blood tasted that bad, I couldn’t even imagine how revolting it would be to eat her heart. “I won’t,” I said through our mind link. “She tastes…rotten.” “Really?
