Worse, Brian would have to undo all the work he’s already put in just to pull me back to normal. It’s not like I want to be difficult right now. I needed some space and I didn't want anyone to disturb me whatsoever. Most people had sworn that they were going to make my life a living hell but I wasn't going to allow that to happen. I was in control of my life and I was not going to allow anyone to gain access into my life and mess things up. That was not all…I had decided that I won't be wasting my energy on things that don't matter. Instead, I would use it to find out something that had been wrong with the park. It might sound strange to the ears but trust me, it's a better development than allowing myself to cry every time someone says something terrible about me.

Too long. “This isn’t about what you want.”

“Yeah, it is. It’s not about running away—it’s about being in control of something when everything else feels so out of your hands. I guess that’s what makes it worth it for me.” Coal, who’d been quietly munching on his food, raised his glass. “I can see that. It’s what we all have in common, isn’t it? The drive to take control of our lives and make something of ourselves.” For a moment, there was a comfortable silence, a shared understanding.

I'm going to be brave and courageous. And I'm going to do it all without her.

Desmond’s words echoed in my mind: Focus on what you can control. I could control the steps I took to ensure her safety. I could control how I interacted with the staff, how I managed the hospital’s security, how I navigated the web of lies surrounding her. I could not control Sylvia’s presence, Gabriel’s interference, or the unpredictable movements of the world around us—but I could control my actions, and that was enough.
