Tears welled up in Talia’s eyes, and when Leo saw them, his fists clenched in silent rage. “My mom had one daughter, Father. Just one. She still had nightmares about him. She could hear his voice, as he taunted her, promising to do disgusting things to her. Each time, she woke up with Rafe rocking her in his arms, and his anger would climb a notch higher.

My mother sat beside her, one arm wrapped around her shoulders, stroking her hair like she was still a child who'd scraped her knee. "You know who I think it could be?" Talia continued, sniffling. "Selena's sister, Darcy. She's hated me from the start. She probably orchestrated the whole thing to get me in trouble." "Talia." My voice came out sharper than I intended. Both of them looked up. Talia blinked at me, her tears pausing mid-roll. "Get dressed," I said. "I'm taking you somewhere." She frowned. "Where?" "It's a surprise." I forced a smile. It felt like plastic on my face. "You need to get out of the palace for a while. Clear your head."

The calm atmosphere of the bookstore bar suddenly felt suffocating, as the weight of what Clive had just revealed settled in. Clive and Dave exchanged a concerned glance as they both noticed the sudden change in my expression. The worry that flooded my face was impossible to hide. I couldn’t help but think of Gulther, my former mate, who had betrayed me in the most despicable way possible. Gulther had cheated on me with my own sister, Jessica, and when he couldn’t usurp my position as the pack leader through treachery, he had attempted to kill me. Even if I hadn't known her for long, I can tell from our first encounter that she would be a spoiled brat who would only associate with people because of their financial or social status. I frowned and walked away. "Oh, my brother is angry. I have to go after him, you wanna come with us?" She asked. I heard no response maybe Talia denied.

I gave him a small smile of thanks and followed Lari out, and we headed down the street to our parent’s home. Everyone we passed gave Lari a small bow of respect, and she was so used to it by now she just kept on chatting about how excited Mom and Dad were going to be. I couldn’t help but smile as my sister is the Luna of one of the two biggest packs in North America. And now I am the Gamma female of the pack. I will need to ask about my duties as such. I heard one of them is I am Gamma to the Luna, which happens to be my sister. I have no problem with that job.
