The boys shared separate beds, while Tiziana had a room of her own, close to mine.
“Time for bed, kids,” I announced, expecting the usual groans, but none came.
I tucked the boys in and picked up Tiziana, rocking her gently as I began to sing the lullaby I had sung to Matteo so long ago:
White glows the lilies,
Red glows the rose,
Here lie my babies,
I watch how they glow.
My heart ached as memories flooded back. Pain and nostalgia mixed with love as my children drifted off to sleep.
