Destined mates 

Who could have known what a rejection could lead to.  Hatred, fury, desire, longing, betrayal, confusion, love, hate and destruction. Those words describe my life perfectly. One mistake and my life turned upside down. Now I'm running so she can't kill me but she isn't the only one hunting me. From the beginning I had one mate but in the end I have three and they all want me.

Poppy, a tribrid; vampire, werewolf and witch. She has three mates, one of each species and one of them is the very last of his kind. 

Her own sister wants her dead for an unknown reason and an even bigger threat is hiding and waiting in the shadows for a chance to make themselves known. 

A prophecy that was once told is almost forgotten but Poppys name is written all over it.

What will the future tell, will Poppy survive her sister? Will her mates help her in the upcoming war or will she kill them all?

Chapter 1 Poppy

She has found me again. I finally found an easy job  at a little bakery in a small town out in nowhere. I’ve been running for three years now and I’m getting tired but scared since I don't know why she wants me dead.

I have been disguising myself as a human for one year just so she wouldn't be able to find me.  But now once again she has found me and I'm running again. I took off my apron and ran out in the alleyway and I kept running until I couldn't smell or sense her anymore.

I ran into a nearby park and sat down on a bench near the center of it. I breathed out and realized I had held my breath while running. Oh no, I left my bag at the bakery when I took off, she probably found it with all my contact info, damn it. I can't sit still here anymore. My instincts told me I should keep running even though the park is empty except for me and the dog. 

Wait, what dog? I sniff the air once more and follow the scent when I realize as I stare at it, it isn't a dog, it's a werewolf. Did I by accident wander into someone's territory but I have to admit it's quite beautiful with its black fur and silver eyes.

Standing on a big rock next to the pond and the full moon shining upon it, it gives out a howl, telling it to find its prey, me, and then turn its head downward to stare at me and growl in warning that I should stay put. Well i didn't say i am wise so I took off running the same way I came into the park.

On the pathway a man stepped out from the shadows and stared at me. At the same time I felt the wolf chasing me coming closer and I turned to run in between the trees towards the fence. When I'm almost there I hear the wolf growl and I can feel the panic creeping in as I can feel her coming closer to me.

I stop and look at the fence, it's two meters high and I need to take a few steps back to run a few meters and then jump over it and land on the road outside of the park.

” Damn it” 

I freeze at the sound of his voice, no it can't be him, I think but when i turn around i notice the wolf has jumped over the fence to and i start of running again, while i'm running i keep looking at the buildings, i'm faster than a normal werewolf even if i haven't fed lately.

Finally I see a low enough building for me to jump onto and hope the wolf cant follow me up, because right now i dont have the strength or enough magic to fight a werewolf, i sprint toward the building and jump quite high but i almost misses the roof so i land on my knees and hand up there. 

I got up on my feet just as I heard her, my sister screaming, ”stop her” , I turned around slowly to see her, the wolf and him. My rejected mate was standing down on the street looking up at me. I feel sad looking down at them but I can't afford to stay here much longer even if I can drown myself in his forest green eyes. 

”please, stop, don't run anymore”

I look at him with surprise, he sounded sad, tired and exhausted but i knew that i needed to keep going even if my soul were screaming out to him, i just wanted to jump off and throw myself at him but i couldn't, she would kill me in an instant so i whispered ”sorry” and turned away from them.

”come on sis, we need to get going before our older sister tries to kill you”

Sky opens up a portal and takes my hand and pulls me through it. To go through a portal is like being squeezed through a wormhole, warm but very very tight and the sound of whooshing goes right through your brain.

When we step out of the portal and I see my childhood home where I grew up, we are standing in the kitchen and my mother is making dinner. My head spins by all the impressions and I throw up on the kitchen floor.

” oh sorry sis, i guess you haven't gotten through any portal in awhile” 

I don't say anything, scared that I will throw up again if I try.

”Poppy my sweet little girl, don't worry I will take care of that” , my mother says and comes to hug me.

” go hug your dad and wash up before you eat dinner”

I turned around to see our dad standing there with tears in his eyes.

”Daddy” I cry and run to him and he catches me and engulfs me in a big hug.

”oh i missed you so much baby girl”

” where is father” i ask him

” Your father is out following Holly and will come back when it's safe” our mother says to me.

I nod my head against dad's chest and when I let go I let out a little gasp by the sight of him, his normal handsome face now has a scar running across his left eye down to his chin.

” yeah it's a sight to behold” dad jokes with me  

I nod since I know it's my fault I don't say anything.

”Poppy sweetie it's not your fault don't even think about that ever again” 

I nod still feeling sad but walk to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. Damn I look like a ghost when I look in the mirror at myself. 

I get out of here when I'm done and can smell my mom's food in the hallway, lasagna, my favorite, my stomach growl as I sit down at the table and my brother laughs at my reaction to the food. I take a large portion of the lasagna, some sallad and a large glass of milk. I moan over the taste of my mom's food.

I missed my mom's home cooking and sitting around the table with my family in peace. The last time I did this was almost three years ago before Holly turned on me and wanted me dead for some reason I don't understand. 

When me and Sky were small, Holly actually liked me, I think, but something changed when we grew up and when he came into the picture everything changed for our little family. 

Right now I don't want to think about that. Just now I'm enjoying our little family time, just enjoying each other's company. When I have eaten myself full I get up and go up to my old room and into my bathroom.  I strip myself and jump into the shower. I enjoy really hot showers and can stand under the hot water for hours.

Eventually I get out and the bathroom has a fog in it which makes me giggle a little before I wipe my body and wipe the mirror. I shocked myself over how I look. I have lost weight and my ribs are showing, I have black bags under my eyes, my brown hair is longer, it almost touches my waist and makes my ugly scar even more visible. 

Two and a half years ago, Holly caught up to me and I barely escaped when she slashed my hip open with a silver blade dipped in wolfsbane. The wound almost didn't heal since I couldn't get blood in time and my magic was almost depleted so it left me with a jagged and ugly scar on my left hip. 

I got dressed in a pair of leggings, a black shirt, my purple sweater, socks and my favorite pair of shoes. They are a pair of converse that my aunt has painted flowers on in different colors. 

When I got back down to the living room I let out a cry and ran to my fathers open arms. I hugged him hard and he hugged me even harder.

” i have missed you so so much father”

”i have missed you too baby girl”

we hugged each other in silence unwilling to let each other go but we parted at last.

” i have your bag by the way, i took it from holly when she wasn't looking”

he gave the bag to me and I opened it and looked inside just to realize it was empty, I sighed.

“its empty”

“we can fill it up again sweetie”

I just nodded, I needed to go again soon and they knew it too as all of them looked at me with sadness in their faces.

“don't tell us where you're going, otherwise she will find you and I will not lose another child to my own child” my mother told me as she hugged me and then held out her hand to me. 

my brother smiled and held out his hand to me and nodded.

“ no I cant i haven't had any for some time I will drain you both” I looked scared at them both

“ you're not that strong yet, sis” Sky said with a wink.

“ Honey, I made something for you by the way,” my mother said, holding up a necklace with a flower pendant on it.

“ it contains enough magic for you to make a portal one time” she explains to me.

I nod as she puts it around my neck for me and I can feel my mothers magic in it. It gives me a little feeling of peace, that I know that she will be with me. 

“Come on now sis, take our hands “ my brother says with a smile that I have longed to see.

I take skys and my mothers hand a feel for their magic and it comes rushing out of them and into my body; where it touches my magic source and both their magic mingle and transform with mine so it will entirely be my magic but stronger.

“nice to see you again lil sis” 

I froze as I heard her voice, that cold voice with so much hatred in it reserved just for me, I turned my head to see Holly standing by the front door looking at me with raging hatred.

“Holly” my dad says

Holly holds her hands up and a ball appears made from her own magic and she throws it at me, my father was faster as he tackles me, sky and our mother to the ground but in that moment I let go of their hands and the magic transfer is interrupted. I feel my father pull me up and I see my brother open up a portal for me and as he shoves me in it my dad throws my bag at me just as I see that sky puts up a protective barrier against holly as she screams at me. I got really scared of the look in her eyes, it was an intense pure raging fire in it.

The portal takes me to my favorite cousin, Viola, it's another safe place for me, since viola and Holly hate each other and they are equally strong so Holly cant come after me with ease.

Our grandmother had this thing for earthly names, flower names for the girls and more earth names for the boys, like Poppy and Sky or Viola and Atlas. our grandmother only got three girls of her own, my mother Magnolia and her little sisters, Jasmine and Rose. They also named their children after flowers or earthly things. 

Viola is my favorite cousin, she can make any plant grow faster than nature itself, she has two brothers that are on Hollys side, Ash and Atlas; their mom is my aunt Rose who owns an apothecary. 

My other aunt Jasmine has only one son, Storm who was born under a lightning storm so she named him Storm, he hates his name but of course he loves Holly. 

I stepped out of the portal and into a greenhouse with lots of different plants and flowers. In the middle of the room stood a round glass table and two chairs made of metal leaves. My brother Sky made it for Viola after Holly burned down the original table and chairs down to ashes. on the round table sat a teapot, two tea cups and some cookies on a small plate. 

“ Sky told me you were coming soon so I made your favorite cookies and tea”

i turned around just to Viola standing there looking at me, she opened her arms and i gladly hugged her and she hugged me back hard. 

“ i missed you cousin” i told her

“ i missed you too. I have put up a protective barrier around the green room so if she gets here she can't see you. '' viola answers

“ come now and have some tea with me and if you want you can sleep here, i made a flower bed for you”

I nodded tiredly and let her go to sit down and pour us some tea. Finally, I can rest for a while.
