Following the tip of the boy, she found herself on the outskirts of the village. In the distance, Chad had his arm curled unceremoniously around the meagre arms of a petite girl with unkempt hair and narrow eyes. She dressed drably in tattered clothing and appeared sloppy. Jade recognised the girl as Sally, the country girl smitten with Chad and clung to him like glue.

I said gasping in awe. He chuckled a bit before ruffling my neatly set hair. I frowned at him and set my hair again properly in a high pony. I have a natural caramel balayage hair. It is a mix of caramel, honey and black hair. He pulled my hair-tie out and secured it around his wrist. I frowned at him but he just chuckled and tucked a lose strand of my hair behind my ear and placed a pin in my hair to keep it from falling back on to my face. I pouted and looked away but I smiled touching the pin in my hair. Next to me was a small chest that caught my eye, and I reached into it slowly, pulling out two different toys that were lightly coated in dust. The one on my left hand was a small wooden toy sword with chipping paint. A little pale blue tassel hung from the hilt and the Du Pleasant family crest was carved into the side of the blade. On my right hand was a soft sewn doll in a warm blue dress with faded white lace accents. Her little wiry blonde hair was still partially styled on one side while the other looked like it had been roughly dragged across the floor. Carly was by my side, as I served the girls their meals. "Why me?" I mouthed helplessly. I was making allies with basically all of the girls and chiding them on their diets and what they loved to eat might make a foe out of them. "For what's worth, they'll listen. They adore you." Carly whispered. They did? My face seemed to ask. "They think you as their Lifesize Barbie doll." Carly chuckled wittily, eyeing the Balenciaga blue sweater I was wearing. I glanced back at my outfit. It was what I could gather from my closet as I had left Andrew's mansion. I never paid any attention to my branded outfits. But the kids did.

Ronald whispered urgently, aligning with Denzel's unspoken concern. With a quiet resolve, Lila rolled up her sleeves and stepped into the living room. I looked back at her as she pulled away fearfully. “It’s fine.” While Rosemary whimpered, I picked up one of the dolls. The head dropped almost immediately. It seemed its neck had been twisted. I picked up the male doll and saw it was in the same state as the female one. My eyes narrowed in on the text which was written in red paint.

Walter, fuming, grabbed the nearest thing and twisted it viciously, wishing he could rip it apart. All of a sudden, a child's voice exclaimed, "Ahh! The mean uncle ruined my doll!" A plush toy suddenly burst into tears with a loud 'wah', jolting Walter. It took him a moment to realize he had accidentally grabbed a colorful stuffed doll from a vendor's stall, meant to catch the eye of kids like candy in a store. The doll in his hand was then a sorry sight, its shape all mangled. He could just about recognize it as a character from a kids' show, Pleasant Goat, by the remnants of a bow tie.

A small cloud of dust rose around her. I didn't wait for her to recover. I reached down, grabbing a handful of that platinum hair… extensions, I noted with grim satisfaction, and dragged her back up until we were eye-to-eye. The strands felt synthetic between my fingers. "Don't fucking mess with me, Barbie," I hissed, my voice a low, dangerous vibration that came from somewhere deep in my chest. "You want to play the villain? You picked the wrong protagonist." "Let me go!" she shrieked, clawing at my wrists with those ridiculous acrylic nails. "You're insane!"
