I cry for them. The warm golden glow begins to grow out of Trev as more of my tears fall on him. And it dawns on me. My tears, they can heal. Tess sipped her water. She pulled Alessia up with her and walked to the restroom. After making sure no one was in there, she faced her. "You're being abused?" "What do you mean? "It's okay, lemme see," Tess said calmly. She slowly removed her hands from her face. Tess gasped. "What happened to you?"

But Tessy's keen perception detected the tears welling up in her eyes. "Are you alright? Are you crying?" Tessy inquired, prompting Rowan to swiftly adjust her tone to a more pleasant one. "No, why did you call, Tessy?" Rowan feigned ignorance, pretending not to know. Tessy refused to be deceived. "You shouldn't lie to me, even if you deceive others. I can discern the sound of your tears or laughter. Please, tell me what's troubling you," she insisted. Rowan, who had been longing for this moment, could no longer hold back her tears. They cascaded down her cheeks uncontrollably.

The shower turned on a moment later, water hissing against the tile. Tessa stayed in bed a second longer, then pushed herself up. Her eyes fell on her black nightgown. She picked it up, fingers running over the jagged tear along the strap, the ripped lace at the hem. A slow smile spread across her face. She remembered: the way Roman’s hands had gripped the silk like it offended him, the sharp rip when he tore it open, the heat of his mouth between her thighs, devouring her until she forgot how to breathe, how to think, how to do anything but arch and moan his name.

She quickly wiped her tears and unlocked it. “What are you doing? Why did you lock the door?” He paused, then his brows drew together. “Why are you crying?” Tessa opened her mouth to answer, to lie, to come up with something, but nothing came out. She couldn’t keep the lies going, but she also couldn’t tell the truth. Suddenly her tears spilled again, everything inside her cracking open at once. “I’m sorry.” Her voice trembled between sobs as she covered her face with both hands.
