His skin was gray, his hair matted with blood, and his eyes were dark, empty of the violet glow.
Kael, the mercenary, stood up, shaking his head. He looked at the unconscious Andreas in the pod, then at the broken, bleeding Nikos, and finally at Aris. He drew a serrated blade from his belt.
"The Ledger is dead," Kael hissed, stepping toward them. "And so are you."
Aris pulled himself up, his pistol empty. He looked at the pod. Andreas’s fingers twitched inside the glass.
"Not yet," Aris whispered, picking up a heavy steel strut from the floor. He planted his feet, shielding the pod with his body. "Not while I'm still breathing."
