Aneet smiled at him, small but hopeful. “Hi…”
But Ahaan’s expression tightened. “The car’s waiting,” he said abruptly, voice sharp.
The tone wasn’t rude, but it was colder than she’d ever heard him speak to her. Aneet’s smile faltered.
“Ahaan! Where are your manners? Apologize to Aneet,” Deanne rebuked, her eyes flashing with maternal fire.
He pressed his lips together. “I’m just saying we should leave,” he muttered, jaw locking.
