She was never his to own
Sofia curled against her, warm and soft, smelling like baby shampoo and something sweet.
Tonight, they were reading the bunny book. The one about the bunny who got lost and found his way home. Sofia knew it by heart but demanded it every night anyway. Elena read slowly, letting her daughter's small finger trace the words, letting the familiar story wash over them both.
"The bunny was very scared," Elena read. "He didn't know how to find his way back."
"But his mama found him," Sofia said, the way she always did.
"His mama always finds him."
