The One
Caelan would only publicly call me out.
After we eat, we decide to push a little further, rather than camp down for the day. As we continue up the mountain, the path is narrow, winding around jagged rocks that jut out like the teeth of a sleeping giant. The rest of the group walks ahead, led by Caelan, who seems so sure of where he’s taking us. Every time he turns a corner, he strides forward with that irritating confidence, like he knows every inch of this treacherous land. And maybe he does, but something about his unerring direction rubs me the wrong way. He knows the deepest secrets of these mountains, yet he still believes Bright Waters is a myth. He’s an ignorant fool.
