Alastair seemed hesitant before, but now you'll be designated as the heir and the next Alpha.” Hunter looked at me with a sad gaze. “At what cost, Fierce? Caleb and the others were banished.”

"What are you asking?" "Was my rejection that bad? I was in as much pain as you, I felt like half my soul was gone, yes. But clearly, it wasn't bad enough to make you hate me like this." I paused for a moment, then continued. "Or did it affect you more than it affected me?" The Alpha blushed; he covered his cheeks with his hand and said, "I am the Alpha's son. I am wealthy, strong, and the sole heir of the Alpha. Your rejection wounded my ego."

“I have been gone for some time now and I only return to hear bad news. He walked to the table. He was furious over my delay in securing an heir. “You’ve been Alpha for three years, Leo. Three years and no pup. You need an heir.” I clenched my jaw. “I’m working on it, father.” “Working on it?” He laughed. “You call this working? A marriage full of scandal. A Luna who can’t even give you a child.” “Don’t talk about Freya.” “Why not? It’s true.” He leaned forward. “You are delaying the heir. The elders are discussing removing you as Alpha. This cannot continue. You must secure an heir soon. Marry another Luna if you need to, do your duty.”

“When do I become the alpha?” Simion grunts, then clears his throat. “I’m afraid we decided Beta Conrad is a better fit for the position.” Jason lunges at Simion and grabs a fistful of the old man’s shirt. “The previous alpha was my father. I am the rightful heir. The throne is mine!”

"Give it to someone else," I say, though we both know he can't, not without me telling Theron why, not without saying out loud the thing I have never said to a living soul but Cassian: that is the Alpha who rejected me in front of three hundred wolves, and that is the man whose heir I have hidden from the world for five years. "You're the best hunter the King has," Cassian says, gentler now, pushing off the frame.

What matters now is your future.” “It matters to me,” I say. His pale eyes search my face and seeing the determination I’m sure is there he sighs. “They betrayed this pack. That’s all you need to know.” He says with an air of finality.
