The Apothecary Diaries Web Novel Novels & Stories

“There’s not much to talk about. I’m an exile with a death warrant and a mate who’d rather kill me than have me expose the pack secrets.” Cassie’s eyebrows lift. “Is that what you think?” The question sits there, sticky and sharp. I look away, up at the line of drying herbs that bisects the room. There’s more variety here than in most apothecaries: sage, mugwort, skullcap, dried poppies hanging like little brown bells. Bundles of pale birch bark, glass jars packed with yellow roots and bitter leaves, whole shelves dedicated to vials of what I’d guess are poisons if I didn’t know Cassie’s reputation.

28 Sienna. There’s a rhythm to the apothecary I like best in the early hours. There were no customers, no clinking of bottles or awkward small talk. Nothing but the creak of floorboards and the quiet pulse of herbs straining through cheesecloth. Peace. Until recently, that peace had been dependable and predictable. Now it’s cracked.

The air was filled with the rich aroma of herbs, spices, and exotic botanicals, creating an intoxicating blend of scents that wafted through the space. Rows upon rows of wooden shelves lined the walls, laden with jars and vials of every size and shape, containing ingredients both mundane and mystical. The apothecary seemed to hold a treasure trove of rare and fantastical components. A long, marble-topped counter extended the length of the room, where skilled apothecaries in embroidered robes had been meticulously mixing potions and elixirs in gleaming glassware.

I never wanted to see this box again. Why am I here? Why did this force bring me here? "Let me out. Let me out." I hear that voice again. I'm still not in control of my body. I watch my hands grab the box. My mom sealed it with a spell only she can undo but somehow as I grab it, it clicks open and all the magic that was sealed in there finds it's way inside of me. It passes through my nostrils, my ears, my mouth and I feel it rushing through my veins. Oh no. What have I done?

It felt like love. "What a precious little thing you are," he whispered admiringly and then dipped down. Carrying her in his arms, Kevin walked back into the room. The bed sank slightly as he gently placed her on it and tucked her into the covers. She was still asleep and looked adorable, which made him smile a little. Glancing at her one last time, Kevin was about to leave when his gaze was drawn to the pack of tablets kept on her nightstand. He initially mistook them for contraceptive pills, but when he picked up the pack, his brows furrowed in confusion.

"That's a no. I see little tendrils. Almost like... Oh shit, she didn't." "What?" Eli blinked. Kali sighed. "Have Len come in. This isn't good." Kali sat between the two beds as she studied them. This looked like Abyssia's doing. When Len and Eli walked in, Kali sighed. "It's a case of abyssal toxemia narcosis." They both stared. "Right, you guys need classes here. It's an abyss disease that turns blood to poison and makes a body reject a gem. It's Abby's doing. She was using it to make puppets from these two."

Maybe from here, my life would settle down. _ _ _ I hope you enjoyed this first book! Book two is out now!! So be sure to look out for: "Goddess Diaries"

“It’s nothing for you to worry about. Just some old notes. Private shit.” Private. Yeah right. The word only made my curiosity burn hotter, mixing with the ache in my cock that hadn’t gone down one bit. While he stood up to grab another bottle of whiskey from the bar cart across the room, I leaned forward quickly and clicked on the locked file. A password prompt popped up. Fuck. I tried the obvious ones fast, his book title, his name, the date on the manuscript. Nothing. Then on a hunch I typed in a phrase from one of his filthiest scenes. The file opened.

"The master ledger should be in the drawer." While he went to the desk, I approached the locked wooden cabinet on the wall. The door was made of dark, heavy plum wood, carved with the seal of the imperial apothecary. I used the brass keys to open it. Inside, the shelves were lined with small, blue-and-white porcelain jars. I began reading the labels. Red nightshade. Black locust. Death-cap extract. Then, my hand stopped on a small, unpainted grey clay jar. The label on it read: Gray Wolfsbane.

By the time I reached the northern border town, dusk had already fallen. Moonshadow territory was far behind me, the mind-link was gone, and the air no longer carried even the faintest trace of Dorian's cedar scent. Snow fell outside the station. I pulled my cloak tighter around myself and rested one hand over my lower abdomen. Only after the pain in my stomach settled did I follow the stone road deeper into town. The witch's apothecary stood at the end of a narrow alley. Bundles of dried silverleaf hung beside the door, clicking softly whenever the wind moved through them.
