I moved quietly, my heart loud, needing to see more of this place, to find something that made sense. The manor was a labyrinth, all dark wood and endless doors, the air thick with pine and iron. I wandered, my footsteps soft on the rugs, until I reached a balcony overlooking a courtyard. Below, servants moved like shadows, their heads down, their steps quick. I leaned against the railing, the stone cold under my hands, and tried to breathe. The book’s words kept circling: The unawakened will rise. Was that me? Or was I just another girl who’d vanish, like the others?

The Vision skipped forward then as if skipping over something she didn’t want him to see. She smiled as she woke up to a strong smell of pine, thinking she had woken up from the awful dream. She tried to roll over but she was cuffed with silver chains. She was in a dungeon. She glanced around the room, starting to panic. ‘Jayce, Myra, somebody.’ She tried to mindlink them. “I wouldn’t bother, they can’t hear you.” The calm deep voice came from the shadows. “Who are you?” The voice that came out was not hers but Vivian’s.

It lacked the constant sharpness she carried while awake. I stayed perfectly still. Even Orrin didn’t move. I didn’t want to wake her up. For a rare moment, everything felt calm. But then she stirred. She opened her eyes and awareness crept slowly across her face. Confusion flickered in here eyes followed by realization. She froze. Then she pushed herself upright quickly. She brushed leaves from her clothes, clearly irritated. “What happened?” she asked. I sat up slowly. “We fell asleep.” A faint flush crept across her face, but I couldn’t tell if she was angry or embarrassed.

It felt like someone was swinging a hammer against the inside of Eliza’s skull. The early morning dew caused a damp muskiness on the earth that blended with the mold and dust that burrowed beneath the thick layer of leaves where she lay her aching burden; assaulting her nose and adding to her misery. Her chocolate colored eyes felt pinned shut, but her hearing was abnormally acute. By the sounds around her, she sensed her surroundings were familiar ones. If she was correct, she was near the small cave that was nestled in a knoll that began the acres of woods at the far end of her family’s farm. It was a place that she’d discovered at a young age and had frequented whenever she required

I tapped my fingers on the opposite page, turning it over in my mind before the sound of Duke's phone chiming caught my attention. I looked up and blinked as I noticed the suitcase standing against the wall. Duke came out drying his hair. "What?" "A suitcase?" I cocked an eyebrow. "I guess I should expect them to furnish the guest room next time?"

Chapter 20 The Awakening Fiona’s POV The first thing I became aware of was the silence—an all-encompassing, heavy silence that pressed down on me like a suffocating blanket. It was the kind of silence that made you question whether you were truly alive, or if you had slipped into some unknown void where nothing existed except your thoughts.

The Awakening Natalia's POV “Ouch !” I yelled as I woke. This pain at the back of my head made my eyes twisted with intense dizziness. My vision was blurry and my skin was slippery from sweat. As I woke, my consciousness flickered. As I opened my eyes, I looked around, observing the place. Where was I? I asked myself. The room was dimly lit, cold, and uninviting. The walls were of concrete and the air was musty, making it a little difficult to breathe. As I sat on the floor I felt the tightness of the course rope used to secure my hand behind me. I pulled my hand hard, but they won't budge.
