Chapter 20 The Awakening Fiona’s POV The first thing I became aware of was the silence—an all-encompassing, heavy silence that pressed down on me like a suffocating blanket. It was the kind of silence that made you question whether you were truly alive, or if you had slipped into some unknown void where nothing existed except your thoughts.

She stared out at the waterfall and the lake as if the raindrops dropping on the top of the water was the only thing that she could hear. She kept her head clear as she listened to the raindrops hit the lake, almost forgetting what had her so upset in the first place. She took a deep breath, taking in the earthy smell that the rain brings and enjoying the sound of thunder cracking across the sky. Even the heavy rain didn’t disguise the smell of pine as it wafted into her nose with the rain and wind. She got up and stretched in a downward dog position before shaking the rain off of her. She lunged, tackling him to the ground in a playful demeanor.

His eyes are almost black as he runs them over me. Gulping, I realise what he is about to do. He really was going to make me suffer. “Please, Ryan, don’t do this.” I slowly start to back away, but there isn’t enough room and there is nowhere for me to escape. Tumbling back on the bed. Ryan doesn’t give me a chance to think. He grabs my ankles, flipping me over in one swift movement, so that I am face down on the bed. Trying to push myself up, I feel the burn of the first whip. The force of it has my hands tying themselves up in the blanket. It takes my breath away and I am unable to catch it before the second lashing comes.

She alighted at his house and went in without alerting anyone. “Dennis “ she called in the empty hall but no one responded. She proceeded to the bedroom and was shocked by what she saw. “WHAT!” she exclaimed with her eyes wide open. The two adulterous pair on my bed was awakened by her scream and got up. She would have never thought that her man will betray her with none other than her step-sister. And felt betrayed and left in anger

She emptied it, she must have been parched. I scooped her up in my arms and brushed a lock of hair behind her ear, taking a good look at her pretty face and her open eyes to convince myself that she was indeed awake. She had a heavenly smile on her face, and I kept looking at it and at her eyes, hypnotized by them, by her. I couldn’t hold back any longer and covered her chin, cheeks, forehead and nose with soft kisses. Soon she was starting to feel warmer under my touch and her face recovered its normal color.

***"And she realized the story was a cage. So, she closed the book." --- ### The Awakening (The True One) **GASP.** Liquid flooded out of my mouth as I bucked upward. My lungs burned with a cold, chemical fire. I wasn't in a park. I wasn't on a desk. I was in a dark, cold room filled with the hum of a thousand cooling fans. I was naked, covered in a thick, translucent gel, and there were tubes—real, rubber and plastic tubes—plugged into my spine and my throat.

He demanded, his eyebrows furrowing into a frown. "Only what needs to be done," she said and looked at him with those ancient eyes. "You feel it too, don't you, executioner? The wrongness in her scent and the power that sleeps beneath the surface waiting to wake up?" Rowan slowly let go of her wrist and she reached for me again. I wanted to back away but my feet would not move, and when her fingers touched my forehead, everything exploded into pain, fire and ice all at once. It felt like something inside me that had been locked in chains for my entire life suddenly broke free and came roaring to the surface. My bones started breaking and reforming and I screamed because it hurt more than my

"Help! Someone, help me!" I heard loud cries for help. When I opened my eyes, I was back to the day my mom's foster daughter, Edith Kellie, jumped into the river. My mother, Evelyn Newbury, leaned over the railing, her heart sinking and rising with Edith. In my previous life, Evelyn had jumped in without hesitation, only for Edith to push her head underwater. The result? Evelyn had drowned, while Edith had been saved.
