"I thought I heard someone... crying." Baron tilted his head slightly, studying her as if weighing truth against weakness. His silence pressed down heavier than any accusation. Her pulse hammered. She could not tell if she had made a mistake in coming here, or if stepping into his room had just bound her to a secret too dangerous to walk back from. Baron's eyes narrowed, the flicker of the candle catching in their depths. "You need to understand something," he said, his tone low but cutting. "With the Blue Moon approaching, instincts and nature sharpen. You'll hear things you shouldn't. See things you can't explain. Sometimes even from afar."

AVERY’S POV: As the door closed behind her, I returned to the endless stack of documents. Contracts. Financial breakdowns. Threat assessments. I picked at my food between pages—spoon in one hand, red pen in the other—until a quiet knock broke through the quiet. “Come in,” I said without looking up. The door creaked open, and Baron stepped in. He wasn’t dressed like he’d gone to sleep. In fact, he looked like he hadn’t even thought of it. His sleeves were rolled, his posture straight—but his eyes showed hesitation and thoughts.

Instead, he used his own razor-sharp tail fin to slice a chunk out of Baron’s own, like an ancient warrior who cuts off his enemy’s arm as his spoil for winning. Baron’s whole body shuddered, but he was not yielding and glared at Dicken even as he laughed. “Why won’t you kill me? You know that I’m not going to die so easily when the Nest exists. Aren’t you afraid that I would usurp your throne?”

Valentina screams as she is dragged out by her hair. “Baron, I made a promise to you not so long ago. Do you remember what I said?” I ask him as I look at him and he has tears streaming down his face. “I told you, you will watch as I peel her skin layer by layer. You will watch as she begs and pleads for her life, then you will watch as the light leaves her eyes. Then I will do to you the very same thing. You see, Baron, I am not one to break my promises. So get comfortable because we will be here a while.” I say, smiling at him. He is shaking and shouting, begging for mercy. It will not be granted to him.

“She also wants pics of when you are at your most pissed moment. Baron appeared at the bathroom door, He leaned casually against the door frame. His shirt was half-buttoned and he had a playful smirk on his face. “Only if you promise to look this relaxed in the pictures.” I rolled my eyes, chuckling softly. “Deal. Now hurry up and join me before the water gets cold. Baron paused for a moment, taking in every word I said. “You want me to join you? That bathtub is too tiny for both of us.” I arched a brow, giving him that lazy smile that indicated that his complaints were lame. “Are you saying you’re scared of a little squeeze, bae? “Both of you are staying over,” Mari announced as Baron came out of the bathroom, partly because she just liked to announce things overdramatically but mostly because she wanted to cover the awkward silence. Baron already didn’t like Damien, if he found out anymore; he would go berserk I was sure. But I wasn’t sure I liked this overbearing behavior but I put up with it because Baron really cared about me. He had once told me about his rough childhood even though he had grown up super rich. His father had been very abusive with him. He said that he had hardly made any close friends all his life, which was why he was so protective of both of us.

I ask, and my frown deepens. He walks over to his bar, and I know I need to follow. After pouring two glasses of neat bourbon, he brings the glass tumbler to his lips, takes a long swig, and gives me an odd look. “You need to go to Norway to find that out. Your beast came with deep secrets that only he knows but refuses to remember. In other words, Baron has locked away a part of himself that he does not want to acknowledge.” He says, placing his glass down.

Just the soft clink of ceramic and the faint sound of something sizzling. I stopped just outside the doorway. Baron stood at the counter in one of my shirts—far too big on him, sleeves rolled, hem brushing mid-thigh. His hair was still slightly messy, face relaxed in a way I rarely got to see. He hummed under his breath, focused, completely unaware of the danger that lived beyond these walls. He cracked an egg against the edge of a bowl. Shell went everywhere. He stared at it for a long second. “…Fuck,” he muttered.
