I roll my eyes at him and then hop on the bike, the green wheels match with the pedals and the steering system. But before I can say goodbye and ride away, Eli runs over and hands me a helmet, the visor is a one way mirror like material and its all black, When Eli backs away I start up the engine and give a short smile to the Hunters and then look back at Alec, who I offer a nod and he nods back, "keep in touch, Armstrong lets you..." Ajax shouts over the engine, and before I put my helmet on I yell back, "I'll think of a way" then I place the helmet on and take one last look at the hunters, not knowing when I will see them again, but knowing that in will even if it is the last thing I do.

When they arrived, Grace parked her car in front of a garden shop and bought some flowers and plants for the front porch. She also asked where she could find the hens, and the store attendant was happy to tell her. Outside, Christopher was waiting for Grace in the car when a few boys approached him. They were curious to see who the kid in the hat and glasses were and why he was hiding his face. “Look, Hunter. Someone let Casper out of the haunted house,” one boy said.

Hunter asked curiously. "Not naughty but yeah it has to do with your naughty ones. Here, look at this!" Cole showed another set of photos to Hunter. "Baby caps!" Hunter exclaimed as his eyebrows flew high. There were two baby caps in the photo. One pink and the other blue. At the center of the cap, Hunter’s H and Claire’s C were stitched in white thread. Hunter felt warm inside, and yet there was a soft sting too. He was reminded about the baby they lost, and how it exactly bled out of Claire in the middle of the street.

He held something behind his back, and wore an enormous grin. “Ready?” “Yep.” He whipped out a ball cap. Navy blue with Superstar! emblazoned on it. “I got you a new cap since you said your other one was unlucky. This one looked lucky.” That little shit. That little, sweet shit. Kane took the ball cap, keeping his face shadowed beneath the brim of his cowboy hat. Not only was it a thoughtful gift, it proved Hayden listened to him. Sometimes with kids, he wasn’t sure how much they tuned out.

I nodded and then got down to finishing the rest of my sandwich and coffee. When I was done, I felt warm inside and happy too. It'd been long since I'd felt either of those things. "We'll be moving the traps further into the woods this year," a burly man in a red and black plaid shirt said as he walked into the store with a rifle in his large hand. He wore a dirty brown cap over his head with thin strands of dark hair sticking out front underneath. There was something about him that reeked of danger. With that, he touched the brim of his straw hat, then ambled off in the direction of the pasture. "Alright, are you ready?" Hunter asked. Poppy nodded. "Sure." He squinted at her slightly. "The sunglasses are a good idea, but do you have a hat?" She shook her head. "No hat. I didn't even think about it."
