Her shoulders trembled as she spoke, her voice cracking under the weight of it all.
Then she lowered her hands slowly and looked at him, her expression lost, almost childlike in its confusion.
“Caleb… do you think I’m pathetic?” she asked quietly.
Caleb felt something tighten painfully inside him. He reached out slightly, steadying himself before speaking. “No, Charlie,” he said softly. “You’re not pathetic. You are human. The heart doesn’t heal in one day. With time, you will forget. With time, you will be whole again.”
