He's the beast that I can't run away from. He was delighted to see me suffer, and presently he's keen to attack. His fangs were now out, and he smirked widely. I close my eyes, not ready to see my death before me. But then! Someone suddenly appears inside the cave. The person growled loudly, with bloodshot-eye. "Let go of Mine!" He demanded, with a possessive voice, which made the beast who had been lurking over me, shiver.

I wanted to know if any of the feral wolves had escaped. I crept out from under the shrub and trotted past it. A flash of dashing brown and tan fur from the corner of my eye stopped me dead in my tracks. I swung my head in the direction I'd seen the creature chasing me, but I couldn't see it any longer. My heart began to beat faster; that color was similar to a cougar. I'm one dead meat.

“I know you’re pissed. I get it. You want her to crawl. You want to make a point. But you and I both know you don’t want that to be the way you get her back.” “You done.” He exhaled. “I’m done.” Movement cut across the edge of the corridor. I stopped. A small body darted past the ward’s shadow. Red fur. Thin legs. A fox. “Chase.” “Yeah.” “I’ll call you back.” I killed the line. The honshu surged. I dropped the phone into my pocket and let the beast through. Bones stretched. Skin tore. Black fur flooded my vision. Claws hit stone. The corridor shook. Breath filled my chest in a hard drag.

Chase is also coming with us in the same car as I need him near me to sense any supernatural danger first. Luckily there are none so we can spend some time alone and away from our awaiting problems and figure out our next strategy to deal with them. The kind of place hunters pretended didn’t exist while building their lies on top of it. Above, the distant thrum of the chopper came and went, circling like a bad omen that refused to settle. Below, Lucian moved faster now, driven by certainty, by the belief that the world owed him one last triumph. Abel slowed. This wasn’t a chase anymore. Chases ended with escape or capture. This was a hunt. And hunts had rules. You let the prey believe it was winning. You let it show you where it was strongest. And then you ended it.

I just kept praying that she would turn around, and tell me this was all a prank. The moment she opened the door, I called her name. She spun around, kind of hesitated before looking at me. I swallowed the morsel in my throat, and kept my hands into my pocket. "I affirm that this journey has ended, so yes, the Chase is over." She nodded, and said nothing. She just turned around, and left.

A man’s voice replied through the handset, blasting a panicked response. “Wade, we need back-up! The furries we tracked are onto our scent, and they’ve got us cornered! I repeat . . . we need back-up!” The hunter called Wade wasted no time in ordering his crew to roll out. It all happened so fast. The sound of heavy footsteps rattled the ground, and Austin and I waited in our hiding spot until the coast was clear. “Stay close and follow my lead. I’ve got a hunch that your Bennett boys are the wolves they’re talking about,” Austin spoke in a hushed whisper.

And just when I was trying to get her off my mind… ‘I’ll have someone fetch you tonight.’ I heard her voice through the connection. At the sound of her voice, the mark she placed on my neck pulsed. Chase, who was slouching off — sprang like spring and stood up. A cigarette was still clamped between his lips. "It’s settled then. We're going mate hunting!" I raised an eyebrow at her as I inhaled from my cigarette. And as I breathed out the smoke, I said, "Mate hunting? What kind of species do you think Felix prefers? An orc, demon or a goblin?!"

"What are you talking about, Luxious?" "Hmm?" He smiled and put his arm around me. "You still don't get it, huh? I am your owner, Tiarra... remember? I am feeding you because you are my dog—" I gave him a reason to back off by stamping his foot. I was still not satisfied because I even kicked him. "So you are trying to poison me, is that it?! You are aware that dogs are not allowed to eat chocolates, right?" Luxious just chuckled while avoiding my attacks. "So you are not recognizing yourself as human anymore? It appears that you are eventually accepting yourself as my dog." He grinned playfully. "Can you bark for me though?"
