Casey’s POV: My Cora was gone. She spoke to me last at the old house’s entrance. She had sat in her wheelchair and needed to bring her bowl close to her face to eat. When she tried to tie my tie, she could not even make a proper knot. The last thing she said was, “The weather’s getting warmer, but still, wear more layers. Don’t catch a chill.” There were so many signs. She had been telling me goodbye all this while, and I had overlooked everything.

Cole went silent for a few minutes.
