ENID THE PERFECT DISTRACTION Clover was on the phone when I moved from Mildred. I scratched my forehead feeling my fingers tingle from the sensation of holding her chin in a tight grip. Her gaze softened, though there was still something unsettled behind it. “But at what cost?” she whispered. “Because when it’s over… when you’re alone again… you’re the one left holding all of it. The memories, the marks, the questions.” Chloe leaned back slightly, staring at the ceiling now. “I don’t think Clara regrets it,” she said slowly. “Not really.
