He told me casually, leaning on the wall in the corner, closing his eyes as I looked at him in disbelief. “W-What do you mean?” I asked apprehensively, disquiet about his words that I can’t die. “You are cursed and cursed ones can only be released. I was aware that you cannot live with this guilt but you cannot be killed by me. Either be released or murdered by another curse.” He told me. “W-What do you mean? No.. this can’t be. “I did not know this was going on.” “No. I know.” Griffin rubs his brow before he bends over to help Jaeger to his feet. The Gamma stumbles to the nearest chair and falls into it, staring up at me in horror. “I told you there’s nothing. It’s part of the original curse,” my Beta says and takes the other chair. A curse is what we call it, but the truth is we don’t really know or understand what happened. We just went with the word because it wrapped everything up in a neat little bow.

Quartney smiled menacingly and said, “That’s not an ordinary curse. It’s called the Sorrowful Spirit's Curse. I acquired it from a fragmented scroll left behind by Franciscus. I combined it with Deadgory Bugs and cursed every member above the Yuraeceon Daelm Rank. “Once I die, everyone cursed will also perish, regardless of their strength.” Quartney laughed wildly and said, “It’ll be easy for you to kill me, but I’ll bring down everyone above the Yuraeceon Daelm Rank with me. That includes the Heavenly Warriors, eighty-four powerhouses at the Yuraeceon Daelm Rank’s Ninth Tribulation, three hundred or so at the Yuraeceon Daelm Rank’s Ninth Tribulation’s upper grade, and middle grade. I was the only one still looking like I wanted to scream. “Everyone here came the same way you did,” Nova whispered beside me. “We all fell. We all woke up. Some call it hell. I call it the Game.” “Why are we even here?” I hissed. Before He could answer, that same cold robotic voice filled the air again. “Welcome, participants, to Erevos System – Zone 1 . This is your new reality. You have been selected based on your choices, sins, and survival potential.” I felt my stomach churn.

He became angrier at Charlotte as he was deceived by her. “I will prove you wrong, Charlotte Takeda. Now, I will stop thinking of you and forget about you. Silas's voice was edged with disbelief, as if grappling with the idea of supernatural forces at play. Ezra turned his attention to Lady Athena, his curiosity piqued. "What kind of curse are we dealing with, exactly?" Lady Athena's gaze held a mixture of solemnity and concern as she began to explain. "A demonic curse is a potent form of dark magic, woven in a way that links the victim to a malevolent entity, in this case, a demon. The victim becomes a conduit for the demon's influence, their emotions, thoughts, and even actions manipulated by the curse. It's a sinister form of control, and demons often utilize it to spread chaos and further their own agendas."

My question was simple, feigned concern masking real curiosity. "Nothing you need to worry about," he growled, thumbing the end call button with more force than necessary. But I knew. Of course, I knew. I could almost see the names branded in his mind, the ones I read earlier. Victims of a downfall, collateral in a game they didn’t know they were playing. "Sure," I said, knowing well he would never show more emotions to me. The curse was already too much, it was rare. "Everything will be handled," he declared, a desperate commander rallying troops he could no longer see.

And now… this spirit—the wolf, the shadow, the living catastrophe in a handsome meat suit—was supposedly bound as a familiar. To Nexus. Who had gone missing. And now Selena Collins, a woman who didn’t flinch at vending machine ghosts and had the spiritual awareness of a cat who just walked through a séance, was bearing the glowing mark of his succession.

“Not me. The second-born. Her shadow.” Her voice darkened, like smoke curling around old wounds. “And then she died. And I had him. Finally. And even then, it wasn’t enough. Because every time he looked at you, John, he saw her. Not me. Never me.” She stepped back from the bars, eyes gleaming with a twisted kind of pride. “You were protected from the knowledge of what you truly were. Yet you were the very thing I could never compete with.” “You are cursed, John. Cursed.”
