Dark of Night Copyright 2019 Emily Goodwin Chapter One “What do you see when you look at this one?” The doctor holds up a card, showcasing an ink splotch that’s twisted and creepy, with eyes that follow you no matter where you go. I look at it, heart hammering away inside my chest. The mess of ink on the white paper reminds me of the monster that lurks in Nana and Papa’s basement, the one that tried to get Abby and Scott to go downstairs with it.

Shadow crawled beneath my skin. I screamed. Not from pain or fear. The darkness inside me stirred. Woke. Answered. “No,” I gasped. “Stop. I don’t want” My nails dug into my hands. I felt power twist, push, hunger. Kael held my face. Desperate. “Come back. Stay with me.” The darkness whispered: Take him. Rule him. Own him. “No!” I cried. “I won’t hurt him!”

The tracks had disappeared, the acrid scent dissipating as if it had never been there at all. It didn’t sit right with me. Rogues didn’t vanish without a trace. And whatever had been out there wasn’t a rogue at all—it was something else. Something unnatural. The darkness clawed at the edges of my mind, whispering in a voice that demanded blood, chaos, and vengeance. It threatened to consume me, pulling me into a black void I had fought so hard to control. My fists clenched as I felt the familiar burn of rage coursing through me, begging for release.

More convinced that nothing was superior. More determined to prove that existence should be erased. “I am the Second Dark,” it announced. Its voice was ice. Was emptiness. Was absolute conviction. “I have come to correct the First Dark’s mistake. To undo its betrayal. To prove that existence is suffering and nothing is superior. To erase everything and return all consciousness to the perfect peace it should never have left.”

' Estelle's mind took a dark turn. Her claws extended before she realized it. It's pointed tip gleamed in the darkness with a silver hue. Then another shiver tore through her body. The cold shattered the thought completely. ' What am I doing?' Estelle sighed, a little disappointed at herself. She felt a little shameful for thinking of killing the man who saved her life in his sleep.

Feeling encouraged that I am doing it right, I take him deeper, fighting the need to gag. I am desperate for another compliment. "Damn it, girl!" He groans, placing his hand on the door to support himself. "You are killing me." I wish that is true. We can continue this in hell if we both die. But it's not true. I'm going to be the one to die while he will likely get married and have another woman sucking him as I am doing. Damn, he could even be married. I am too far gone to care about morals and neither do I want to brood on what I can't control.

It was still dark when I suddenly had the urge to pee. As pink as my room was, I knew that they could still sense me. That they would come for me, I stood up from the bed, grabbed my teddy, and was about to start walking to the bathroom, when a hand holds me from under the bed. I screamed, and not a minute later Anthony burst through my door, his wild eyes were searching the cause of my scream. He instinctively pulled me into his chest, then caressing my hair trying to calm me down.

"Beware the darkness that soon will rise." She got pissed, angrily she asked him. "What does that suppose to mean? Why don't you just tell me what do you want?" He smiled at her and spoke again. "The time will tell you and teach you everything about your future soon." Now he was getting upon her nerves. That's all he says, she can't understand a single word. She yelled at him. "What do you mean?" He didn't say anything for a minute then he replied. "Beware the darkness that soon will rise." With that he was gone in a flash. She initially cursed him. She looked around, she was all alone in a forest.
