The dark wolves were followers of the dark king, they were loyal to him even after he was killed by Wyatt and were banned from society. The dark wolves just like their former leader were oppressors of their fellow werewolf race. Most were corrupted by witches' magic.

My parents believe that my wolf is powerful and rare. The Dark Wolf pack was an elusive small pack, we're living away from everyone. We hunt at night and we're hiding in shadows. That's why nearby packs and even rogues are afraid of attacking us. We are not a well-known pack unlike the others but we have great and strong fighters as well. At the age of 7, all pups were trained to kill and hunt in their human form, once they shifted in the age of 15 or 16, training in their wolf form began. We are untamed and the beast of the night.

They were extremely lethal and had little human consciousness which made them greatly feared. Although most wolves entered rogue states due to traumatic events, there were rare events of people born into that state like the wolves of the Dark Edge pack located in the Southern region of the Great Landmark. As for the savage wolves, those were immediately hunted down and killed since that only meant they had completely turned into beasts. As far as I knew, the only savage wolf presently alive was Kodiak Cardinal, Zayn's twin brother and alpha of the Dark Edge pack. I guess he had somehow managed to control his savage wolf but the word was that he was more wolf than man.
