More aligned with the First Dark’s original beliefs. “I am Doubt,” it said. Its voice was heavy. Resigned. Certain of failure. “I am the piece that believes nothing is better. That believes existence is suffering. That believes erasure is mercy. And I will prove it. I will experience your precious existence. I will feel your claimed connection. I will understand your supposed meaning. And then I will report that everything you said was lies. Everything you promised was false. Everything you believe is wrong. And the First Dark will erase all existence. Will return everything to perfect peaceful nothing. Will end this failed experiment forever.”

Of all the things that were hidden, only the hiding his name made sense. “This must mean that there is something greater in play that we do not know about,” the two friends looked at each other as the same thought appeared in their minds. If seemed that the Dark Market was hiding something a bit more sinister - or maybe it wasn’t sinister; maybe they were indeed hiding something but whatever it was, it was something that they didn’t want the world to know.

Darkness is much more than a behavioral tendency, it is a world trapped inside a universe itself; where humanity and any other race chooses to hide its most decadent thoughts, needs, and desires... We couldn't even file paperwork on it. The Jeff-resonance pulsed, not with a solution, but with a memory. A memory of our game. Of hiding things in plain sight. Of using significance as a camouflage. “We can’t fight the chaos,” I yelled over the din of contradictory narratives. “We have to… out-weird it! We have to make our reality too consistent for it to stick!” It was the opposite of everything we’d done. We had to become boring. Radically, profoundly, unassailably boring.

The movie was awesome.” “Which one?” Jake asked. “The ghost and the darkness..” Daniel began. “Seriously? That movie is old school.” Jake interrupted “ You haven’t watched it before?” “ No.” Daniel lied. Truth be told, he had watched it a long time ago but he needed that lie to make his other lie look convincing. He sighed inwardly as he remembered that saying. If you tell a lie, you’ll need another lie to cover that one up.

I grew weak, drawing close to the darkness. I heard cries of my name and the wailing of sirens in a distance. Darkness finally consumed me, I had blacked out.

Ina had been born. The club lived. A universe of light and darkness, where sin ran rampant, and secrets were exchanged under bass beats. Music thudded off walls like a pulse, neon illuminating a dangerous sheen on bodies in motion to the rhythm of the night. Ina came, the heel of her shoe clicking against marble, and eyes following involuntarily without so much as a thought. Power. Freedom. Danger. She breathed it all. Tonight, she was not Lily.
