Mia's expression changed immediately as she realized she had been caught. "What's the problem, Derick?" she asked, trying to sound innocent. "The problem is that you called her the Rejected Mate," Derick said, gesturing towards me. "Do you have any idea how disrespectful that is?" Mia rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on, Derick. She is a rejected mate, isn't she? And she's just trying to milk us for all we worth."

I felt my wolf stirring within me, ready to charge and defend my mate from this lecherous asshole. “Ryan! No!” My mother protested, but I ignored her. I was filled with a protective rage that couldn’t be stopped. I raced toward the nobleman. “You dare to look at her like that?!” I snarled. The nobleman looked shocked and took a step back. “You think you can just use degrading language and touch her, huh?!” Everywhere turned silent, as all eyes turned on us.

He had no reason to say that, but those words wouldn't stop echoing in my mind. I let out a loud gasp, my heart and mind distressed and in confusion. My eyes flew back up to his. “Y-you said I-I was your mate,” I choked out, my eyes wide and unbelieving.

I gasped, trying to speak, but my voice was barely audible. With bloodshot eyes, Coby leaned in closer, his voice a low growl as he began to speak over me. “I, Alpha Coby Brady, hereby reject you, Hannah Ayala, as my mate and future Luna,” he hissed, each word laced with venom. “I hope you rot here in prison for all eternity.” I couldn’t breathe—not because his hands were still choking my windpipe, but because the connection binding us as fated mates had been snapped in two. I felt vulnerable and gasping for air, the pain ripping through my chest, too much, too overwhelming.

Damien hissed and Draco scoffed. "It's what you get for falling in love with someone who isn't your mate bro," Draco replied and now it was Damien's turn to scowl. "Says the guy who can't seem to get over his first love even with his mate in the picture. You think I don't see how you still look at Marianne," Damien fired back.

He flinched, releasing me immediately. I stared at him, knowing exactly what I had to do. The words tangled like a knot in my throat. I took a steadied deep breath. “I’m sorry for this,” I said quietly, the words cutting both of us. “For wha–” “I, Mila Davis, reject you, Alex Anderson, as my mate.” The moment the words left my lips, Alex crumpled to the floor with a guttural scream. The sound tore through me, the pain flaring in my chest, and for a moment I wanted to take it back. To erase his pain, to undo this whole mess.

She disconnects the call without waiting for my reply and I release my breath which I did not realize I was holding in. “Dude, that was rude,” Saxon comments as he went back to lie on his bed. “Define rude? She can be much worse,” Nicholas exclaims. “Gosh, I had this wonderful dream about my mate and I was about to kiss her when your Mom decided to intrude.” Nicholas continues his banter and I tune him out. “Aiden, I don’t think your mom will ever approve of Anna as your mate,” Saxon tells me as a matter of fact.
