A numb determination
The airport was crowded, noisy, alive in ways she felt disconnected from. People moved with purpose, dragging suitcases, talking excitedly into phones, reuniting with loved ones, parting in tearful embraces. Robbin moved through it all like a ghost, her body present but her mind suspended somewhere between dread and numbness. She checked in, passed through security, and found her gate without conscious thought, as if muscle memory had taken control.
