It was just a way for him to have control and power over me. But I’m the one with the power here. To get my revenge, I would do anything, I would give anything, and right now, I was selling my soul to the devil. But in this story, there are two devils. One doesn’t just know it yet.

As the heavy doors swung open with a loud creak, the scene inside the throne room made her blood turn to ice. In the middle of the room knelt a man whose body was already covered with blood. His clothes were torn and soaked red, and he was shaking violently from pain and fear. Standing in front of the broken man was the devil himself - King Malakar. He was holding a whip embedded with thorns, drops of blood still clinging to the cruel metal spikes. His dark hair fell across his forehead, and his clothes were splattered with crimson.

Lucian’s note had come with a final line: “The devil doesn’t wear horns. He wears charm. Find his weakness.” Ayla exhaled slowly. She was no longer Ayla Monroe. Not here. Tonight, she was a ghost. Inside, the gala pulsed with orchestrated elegance. Women in gowns worth more than Ayla’s rent glided past men with blood-stained hands wrapped in Armani. Waiters floated by with champagne. It would’ve been beautiful if she didn’t know who half these people were — or what they’d done to get here. Lucian’s voice echoed in her mind: “Serrano traffics secrets. As I rounded a corner near the courtyard, the sound of loud, frustrated voices made me pause. Devon was standing there, surrounded by his usual group of sycophants and friends. And there, I was certainly feeling better than I had when I woke up. I might have been cursed with a devil but there were still people that made me happy.
