I could feel his eyes on me with every step, and I didn’t want to trip like an idiot. But when my hand touched the doorknob, I froze. Ask him. Just ask him now. No. Are you insane? Leave! My thoughts battled, but curiosity clawed its way to victory. I turned back. He was already absorbed in a newspaper, stock prices glaring across the front page. I swallowed hard and walked back to the desk. He noticed me immediately, lowering the paper with a questioning frown. “Any problem?” “No… umm… yes,” I stuttered.

CHAPTER SIX DENNIS POV Up till now I was yet to decide what exactly felt worse—probably cursing out my new boss at a bar to his face even before he had started work as my boss? Or was it sleeping with my new boss just a night before he resumed duties? At least he could fuck. Or maybe it was the way he kept on looking at me as if last night between the both of us had meant something more? No matter how much I pondered over it, I couldn't place them in a scale of preference.

Two little canines flashed in a silly, sweet grin—adorable as hell. I narrowed my eyes at her and whispered, "What are you doing in there? Get out!" But instead of listening, she only pushed further. Her soft little hand slipped inside. A wave of unbearable tingling shot through me. I curled my toes hard into the floor, every muscle tensed against the deep, bone-tickling itch. I fought to keep my body from giving anything away—there were too many people watching. "Max, what's with this lump here? Let me rub it for you," she said, her face the picture of innocence.

My coffee’s gone stone cold, but I drink the last of it anyway, just to keep myself grounded. ‎ ‎When I close the file, it leaves a faint print of dust on my fingertips. ‎ ‎Damon Vale. Billionaire. Alleged criminal. ‎ ‎Somewhere inside that stack of paper is a truth that could ruin him—or save him. I don’t know which yet. ‎ ‎But as I lean back and stare at his photo one more time, something twists in my chest. Curiosity. A spark of challenge. ‎ ‎People like him aren’t supposed to fall.

My throat constricted as I asked, "What are you busy with right now?" Zachary scoffed. Despite not being able to see his face right now, I could still sense how irritated he was. "Something came up with Gigi. Someone's trying to file a fraudulent claim against her. She's a young woman with no one to depend on. I'm the only person she knows around here, so she had no choice but to ask me for help. Can you stop making a fuss for no reason?" Zachary snapped. It was Gigi Norris again. She was Zachary's first love. Despite only having been a month since she returned to the country, I had already lost count of the number of times I heard him mention her name.

The fear of what would happen if Daniel or I failed in our mission. The truth. That was what we were seeking. What we had to uncover at all costs. But at what price? I felt as though I was walking a fragile line, on the verge of tipping over, and I didn’t know if I could catch myself in time. Daniel, this complex man, determined to uncover the truth behind the murder, was now the man who occupied my heart. But that only made things more complicated. In my mind, dilemmas intertwined and blurred, questions remained unanswered, compromises I could no longer ignore. I turned the corner of a street, a shiver running down my spine at the thought of what awaited us. Our steps had led us to a darker

It was obvious he sounded puzzled. “Yes, I’ll be a successful entrepreneur in the future. Elena, you must feel regretful.” Aaron looked extremely arrogant, with his arms resting on either side of his waist. “I’m here, aren’t I? Why would I feel regretful?” “I’m very clear where you and your corporation stand. You’re staying in the same neighborhood as I do, and you’re stalking my life. Once you learned that I’m joining this dinner, you exhausted all your resources in order to get an invitation here.”

After a scoff, I pulled out my phone's SIM card and tossed it into the trash. Meanwhile, Andrew, who had been enjoying the sunset by the sea with Daisy, heard his phone ring. "We've got a problem! Mrs. Rasmussen is missing! There's a document left behind on her bed. You should come see for yourself." Andrew, who had been helping Daisy put on her bikini cover-up, froze mid-motion. "Eleanor's missing? And what document are you talking about?" "The nurse said Mrs. Rasmussen left in the middle of the night. The document is... a divorce agreement."

She would usually do it herself but now that she wasn't here, Anthony felt lost. He decided to distract himself from thinking about her by watching some TV, but it got boring real soon. "Mr. DeMarco, sorry to bother you again." It was the housekeeper again. Anthony looked at her. "You are not bothering me. Is there something wrong?" he asked. "No sir, nothing is wrong. I just found this book lying on the ground. I figured it could be something important, so I thought I would give this to you," she said and handed him a red leather-bound book that looked like a journal.
