I trembled with rage as Duke leaned in and wrapped his arms around me. “Behave, okay?” he murmured in my ear. “If you want to live—argh!” Luciano pried his hands off me with an iron grip, his eyes dark as he stepped menacingly close to Duke. “Touch her again, and I'll kill you.” Duke was trembling like a child that had just been wanked terribly, as Luciano shoved him away. Then he turned and grabbed my hand, flashing me a charming grin that sent my heart skipping. “Time to go home, wife.”

--- Seraphina's POV "Your Highness, more news from the capital." My head housekeeper delivered the report in my sun-drenched seaside villa. "Duke Alistair and his son are dead. They say it was the backlash from a dark ritual." I sat in a white wicker chair, the sea breeze soft on my face. My cheeks were rosy. My body was healthy. It was as if I had never been sick at all. When my heart had stopped, I thought I would go straight to heaven.

A member of staff came in carrying a tray in one hand and a bottle in the other. He deposited the tray on the coffee table by the couch, put the bottle beside it, then left. The tray contained a selection of cheeses and crackers, two long-stemmed glasses, and a steaming cup of tea. Elias shuffled to the other side of the table. Every bone in my body froze, my fingers still above the tablet's screen. "What would he possibly want with her?" I heard myself growl as I snapped my eyes away from the tablet to Elias and the others who were also in the room. Chloe looked around. They are in a fine restaurant with a huge space. However, the whole place was empty but only two people. That's them. Alexander is sitting on the opposite, going through the menu. Gradually, he lost his patience and tossed the menu card on the table before calling the waiter, who was standing a bit away from them. Everyone was scared today. In the early morning, the Duke has arrived with a woman. God knows what's his plan but their life was in skate if anything goes wrong. He's the mafia boss of the Myers's clan, anyway. And currently the top of every other clan in the mafia. I grimaced at myself before I slowly sat back to bed beside him and he was quick to pull me around his arms again.

Duke Verdens said the report very calmly . " Good good tell me more . What's the next plan ?" Xavier can't contain his vile smile anymore . "We are going to attack the duchy as we planned before , the Duchess Battenburg is the main target this time . " duke Verdens replied as he started organizing the scattered documents . "Then are you going to kill that witch !" Xavier was now getting more and more excited . "No your highness ." Duke Verdens said calmly . "What ? Why ? Kill her now , it's the perfect time !" Xavier stood up angrily .

That made me groan internally. No matter, Duke Ruther will be living, so it is solved at this point. “Thank you, Duke Ruther. For keeping your promise to my grandmother, and for looking out for me.” Giving him a smile, Duke Ruther bowed his head and I did the same. After that, he left without another word, and I let him. I showed him out and no word was spoken from then. With a last look and wave of goodbye, Duke Ruther’s carriage drove off into the horizon and that signaled me to return to my office to start my work as the Duchess of Fortress dukedom. But even then, my mind lingers to the unusual things that happened just this morning.

I was the one to come up with those conditions. He sighed. ‘That promise cannot be broken.’ The duke tried to read the paper again, but the image of Magnolia’s scars was too vivid to push away. He frowned. ‘There were so many.’ He wondered how painful they were when they were inflicted on her, and who dared hurt her. Suddenly, Daniel found himself fuming. His lust for killing was fully awake. ‘I would love to rip apart every limb of whoever laid hands on her.’ His hand trembled. “Henry.” He looked at his assistant who stiffened as soon as his eyes met the chilling gaze of the duke. “I need you to take care of something for me.” His voice was frosty and threatening. “Of course, Your Grace.”
