"Let's hurry and get this over with." When he'd gone, the duchess smiled serenely. She liked the spunky little American who had dared to make a fool of her nephew. And not only that, Lady Trenton had shown her courage when she'd defied Eastland. A most unusual girl, the duchess mused, most unusual. She liked unusual people. And she liked tweaking her nephew's nose. He'd grown far too accustomed to having people leap when he spoke and it was not a pleasant sight. Besides, she had known Anastasia Edlington before she had married her handsome American, and had liked her. The earl's daughter had shown far more spirit than her father ever had, she thought twirling her quizzing glass around one fi

At the nobles who whispered in corridors, their hope was tied not to the duke but to the duchess. Damien was not just crumbling. He was dangerous. And if I did not strike first, he would drag us all into the ruin of his madness. …………. The palace had not yet recovered from the serpent’s assault, but already the whispers had shifted. No longer were they questions. They were certainties. “The duchess saved us.” “She commands as if born to it.” “If the duke cannot lead, perhaps she must.”

When they finally arrived at the Castle, she prayed that the worst be over. The Castle was greater than she had dared to imagine, it was bigger than she had ever heard; much bigger than Carlisle Crest and Carlisle Crest was, to Beth's opinion, already amazingly big. Walking with the Duke gave a sort of security she never imagined she would crave. His strides were with purpose and familiar to the floor. Ahead of her, the younger girls gasped at every turn and squeaked, while holding hands as they trailed behind the Duke. Beth was surprised, and relieved, that Gwen and Lucy had, at last, kept their promise to be cultured and presentable.

Letitia asked shielding her maid from the scary man's view. "I believe he would tell you himself. We should leave now if we want to enter Kerstone early." He replied instead and turned around walking ahead. "He's the Duke of Kerstone." Constance mumbled to Letitia's hearing and Mateo stopped abruptly. He sighed before he turned around to a place faced Letitia and a red faced Constance. "My lady?" He called. Letitia gulped harshly. The Duke of Kerstone? Then she was dead! "My lady?" Mateo called shaking her a little and she gasped looking up at him.

John gasped, “You’re a—" “Scared, Whitcomb?” Nicole asked as the duchess got to her feet, hissing, and screeching. “I don’t care if you were the queen reborn! Out of my way, Nicole!” She screeched, “I was promised his head!” “Let me send you to the afterlife,” Nicole said, “I promise to send your husband soon after!” The duchess screeched. Her usually beautiful face twisted with fury as she lunged at Nicole.

The Duchess opened the door so violently that it hit the wall with a shrill sound. In front of Ella's eyes wide with astonishment, the Duchess had completely abandoned her usual noble image, grabbed a long skirt that reached the ground, and ran towards her. "Gabriella, I'll take you to hide!" As soon as the Duchess saw her daughter, she became very excited. Her words made Ella and the surrounding servants even more agitated. But before the Duchess could touch the hem of Ella's skirt, Duke Hesing caught up and grabbed her waist.

Seeing her stun face, yet all too eager to listen, he finished the tale by telling. “Seeing such Alice told the Cook to mind herself, and even tries to change the topic by telling about the earth’s axis. But the Duchess misheard her and thinks that she meant about axes. Alas, the Duchess screams of ‘Chop off her head!’ then she starts to sing a nasty lullaby.” Stopping with that word as Chantal is taken blankly somewhere. He then drew his signature cunning smile and whispers. “Do not worry, everything is just a game after all. And in the middle of that game it just comes that you are one of the needed sacrifices, Chantal.”

Sara threw away the remaining cigarettes that were left and quickly returned inside. “I want to announce, that my son, the Duke of Mayfield will be finding a wife this season,” The duchess spoke and smiled as she heard the crowd murmur. The Duke stood from the audience with his protests ringing inside the courtroom. "Silence, Duke Castaña! We are still interrogating." The Duke of Castaña Duchy had no other choice but to sit down while the young knight answered by shaking his head first. "No, Your Majesty. The Duchess ordered me herself." The fourth chaos erupted inside the courtroom, which was only silenced when Crown Prince Yei Lin finally raised his hand. "The evidence was presented to the royal court, but if you would bring out now to see the details, it was the replica of the necklace that the Duchess owns."

the irritation was obvious in those purple eyes that sparkled with it, eyes that seemed to want to destroy everything around them. 'A bankrupt duchess' came quickly to the little dragon's mind. Did she really think it would be like this? That a better proposal could not come? It was enough just to look at her title and then at his title. There was no comparison. "They will see...I will finish every one of them off, one by one!" threatened the wind in front of him, which made the little dragon laugh. "How will you finish them off? By clubbing them on the knees? Throw your dentures in their faces?" he scoffed, even though he knew she wouldn't hear.
