The General Prologue Novels & Stories

The idea of sitting beside a stranger was not an option. Lianne’s heart thumped strongly when the trumpet sounded to signal the prince’s arrival on the entrance door. The best choral group of the kingdom then started to sing a Gregorian chant. There were knights lined up opposite each other on the first half of the aisle raising their shiny swords high above their heads in welcome of the prince’s procession. On the other half, the seven generals were present, raising their swords in a similar way. The only general that was not in attendance was General Cain himself.

I scream, my voice echoing around the clearing, bouncing off of the trees. My eyes fly open, momentarily blinded by the sun. The vines screech as they’re pulled apart like wet paper, the bark cracking. My magic recoils into me, screaming out its despair and pain. I writhe on the ground, as my fingers claw in the dirt, searching for more power. But I’m too tired, too depleted, and nothing comes. Large hands reach inside my sanctuary, lifting me up and cradling me to a hard chest. Something inside my chest settles at his nearness, but my eyes can’t focus, and my limbs aren’t heeding my command.

How soft those words were, yet they bore much weight in my ears. She was my only comfort at this point. My only push. And in her arms, sobbing my heart out, I had soon fallen to a night, I hoped would drown my pains. NOTE: A prologue is an introductory section of a piece of literature, especially of plays, that precedes the inciting action of the story. The prologue is often designed to explain background or reveal context to the audience, so they better understand the story that follows.

The ground vibrated with the noise. Kael stepped out of the carriage. The humor in his eyes vanished as he looked at the sky. A flock of birds flew past the treetops, appearing as though they were fleeing from something. “Rogues!” a male voice screamed from a distance. In a heartbeat, General Argus ordered his troops, “Assemble!” Jed worriedly looked at Kael. They had just returned from a trip, and rogues were already welcoming them back. How unlucky could they be?

Elysia's hand hesitated above the tome, and with a deep breath, she opened it to reveal pages adorned with intricate scripts and symbols. The moment the pages were turned, a soft, melodic voice filled the air, carrying a message from ages past. "Welcome, seekers of knowledge. I am the Echo of Temporal Wisdom, a guide through the river of time."

A voice echoed throughout the unknown world for all who entered the Provenance to hear. After hearing the instructions, James was stunned. “Is that why this place is called the Provenance? “We’ll have to complete challenges and travel through time and space to return to the beginning of the world.” James could not help but take a deep breath. He would never have imagined that such a magical place existed in this world.

Testing the weave of my will. “I didn’t open the door,” I said. I stepped forward. The Prophet looked up, startled. For the first time—truly startled. “I am the door.” I reached behind me. I calmed myself down until my heartbeat returned to normal. I looked back at the two of them. I saw the general's look as if he was looking at me. I don't know what that is for. I don't feel anything bad about it, it's just his curiosity. "General, this is the prophecy, but this is more like an augury. A bad omen. This is the message from the necromancers three days ago." Elijah gave a piece of paper to the general and he accepted it. The general looked at it from time to time. "I don't quite understand what this means. It's cryptic," said the general and Elijah looked at me as if he was saying that it was up to me to explain.
