The Gentleman's Gambit Novels & Stories

A loyalty transaction, spoken aloud. At the bar, Elthario Genovese gestured too theatrically for a conversation about tomorrow’s weather. He owned every number that spun across a gambling table, from the dark casino behind a clock shop in Lower Manhattan to the legal floors signed off by officials who loved their grease money. Cash moved through Genovese hands like sand through an hourglass, and everyone in the room knew where the river emptied.

I couldn’t afford to expose my most precious jewel in this dangerous game. A maid came to me and whispered in my ear, “Ma’am, a young gentleman is asking for you. He is waiting for you in the upper gallery.” The hair on my body stood up upon hearing her words. It was Sebestian. I couldn’t chicken out after five years of patience and preparation to face him. I excused myself from the guests and made my way upstairs. I gestured Jonathan to handle everything down there. I took deep breaths with each step I took in the direction where he might be waiting for me. the faint lights and absence of human in the gallery made nervousness bubble in my veins.

"Only without a sponsor. If one was to adopt your current…bad luck, you would have a clean slate to play on?" His voice was alluring, reassuring and Oliver saw a route back into the room. "And are you suggesting you might be the man for such a role?" The gentleman offered his hand and calling card. "Milo Westerby, entrepreneur and fellow gambler." "Baron Oliver Fairfax," he replied suddenly taken aback by the firm grip in which Milo took his hand. Milo was in his late thirties, a sheen of sweat upon his brow which looked to be from alcohol. His clothes were well cut but not the very latest fashion like Oliver.

Sebastian did not take the old man's advice, but he was very grateful to him. "Young man, two people were defeated by him a couple of days ago. They lost everything they had, and they both jumped off a building that very night. Don't let yourself fall into a trap," the old man said persistently, unwilling to give up. "It's alright. I won those tens of millions anyway." Sebastian strode onto the gambling stage and sat down at the long table opposite Gareth. "Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached the climax of our grand gemstone betting gala tonight. This is Mr. Ballard, and this is Mr. Yadden. They are both part of the elite of the gemstone betting world.

He wanted to keep playing along until he had all the facts. He still couldn’t believe Gabriella fell for an old geezer. She was too vivacious for an old man no matter how much money he lavished on her. Nick couldn’t imagine the girl who sexed up Goldman in the desert and at Garvey’s falling for an old man that probably couldn’t get it up anymore. The doorman for the building opened the limo door. Nick took a sharp inhale as the grinning douchebag, Billy Newman, hopped into the limousine. He quickly took Gabriella into his arms.

The man was beautifully dressed in a black tuxedo, with a gray bow tie that was atypical for him, but very beautiful. - "Congratulations, Miss Collins," he murmured. Banks's eyes were illuminated by the casino's many lights. The green streaks were so captivating that Blair had to force herself to look away. And along with the attraction that man exuded, Blair also felt guilt. She felt guilty for not being able to be the woman he saw; the Blair that Ethan knew was simply a fake. - "Thank you. But I'm sure you let me win." - "I'm a gentleman," Ethan said, shrugging somewhat indifferently.

Straight ahead was that shadow of that snake again, which caused Gabriel’s jaw to clench tight as he knew something was about to happen. Downstairs the casino was lively and busy with people, having fun and drinking, gambling. The scene was a bit foreign to Gabriel as he tried to relax at a craps table while Jasmine stayed at the poker table. He watched her from across the way as she smiled and talked to the man dealing her the cards. They still hadn’t talked about what happened at the dinner table and dinner from there on was a bit awkward as they tried to get over their feelings and have a good time.

“Sir York, every single Great Gambler is hand-picked by our family. “Not only are they skillful when it comes to gambling and luck, but they’re also extremely loyal to the family. “We treat them very well. They live pretty lavish lives with lots of bodyguards keeping them safe. “These people would never betray the family under these circumstances.” Harvey nodded lightly. “Your Great Gamblers might not have betrayed you before, and they might not betray you in the future, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t betray you now.” Fabian froze. “What do you mean?” Harvey stared at the eyes of the middle-aged man. “Have you paid attention to his sluggish eyes? He seems like a person who just woke up,

They sat on the lowkey table, near the shorter one who joined the adjacent table which had the wealthiest aristocrat. Just the aristocrat laughed, “This little rat!! Who are you!” Jiang saw Mr. Secretary replying with a blank face, “Dongsaeng*. He’s new in the capital.” Everyone laughed. Seeing him losing back-to-back rounds, Han Jiang sighed, “Just look at that perverted drunkard gambler, too wasted for his young age.” General Jun smirked, “Or maybe too smart for his age.” They saw how that ‘little rat’ lured the aristocrat to bet on everything he had and then in the end flipped the game with his win.

** The Queen’s Gambit** Paris, France – Devereaux Estate Marcella Devereaux sat in the grand parlor of her ancestral estate, the soft glow of the chandelier casting sharp shadows over the glass of Bordeaux she swirled idly in her hand.
