"It's Christmas?" "Yeah. Christmas morning." Grace looked at the box. "Is that...?" "For you. Yes." "Aiden, you didn't have to—" "I know. But I wanted to." He picked up the box and held it out. "Here." Grace took it slowly. The wrapping paper was simple. Green with a white ribbon. She sat down next to him and carefully unwrapped it. Inside was a sketchbook. Black leather cover. Thick, cream-colored pages. High quality. Grace stared at it. "A sketchbook?"

"She went back to her room to write her thesis after dinner." Elliot pursed his lips and examined the gift box. Had she bought him a gift after she had realized how rude she was? It was only fair that everyone got a second chance. Avery's initiative to buy him a gift made the rage in his heart dissipate slightly. Elliot slowly opened up the box, revealing the book inside of it. This book had an eye-catching title. It was called "The Art of Anger Management", and it had a picture of a lush ginseng plant for a cover.

This thing is ridiculously huge and heavy, it would be impossible to read it whilst standing. The entire cover is decorated with raised and embossed vines and leaves and the tarnished, gold gilded surface reflects the lamplight up at the ceiling. There are gems and stones scattered about representing flowers, and more spaced around the edges. My finger comes to rest in an indentation in the upper right hand corner. Something is missing. From the size and shape of the void I can take a pretty good guess at where it went. I have spent so long in his company there is no way I would miss the similarities between the indentation and the Moonstone Hunter wears around his neck.

"Did he not accept it? I still have the shipping receipt. I'll track it down if Mr. Orwell does not accept it." "So what did my father ask for?" "Mr. Orwell asked me to send some books. I thought the book was very old and looked quite thick. The cover is made of leather. I wrapped it very carefully. I was a little surprised that the book was locked." "Locked?" "Yes. On the cover, there is a keyhole. But there's no title or author's name." They arrived at a simple little house right behind Rain's childhood home. Adaline lives alone. The house looked as if it had been designed the same way as the owner—old and gloomy.

Aaron began to unbox the gift, I glance at Kai, Asher and Rue who were staring at Aaron excitedly. Aaron finally got the wrap off, opening the box. He gasped on seeing whatever was in it, looking up at them again. “You guys.” He croaks out and well, sounds like no one’s dying or going to jail. “Do you like it?” Asher asks but I could hear the nervousness in his voice. “Like it? I love it! Are you kidding me?” He finally takes the gift out and it’s a book. “You guys shouldn’t have.” He smiles widely, opening the book.

I look over to where Primus had been sitting not so long ago. What's this? Primus left something behind. A book? Was this the gift he meant to give me? It is a small thing, dainty. I cannot imagine someone as large as Primus ever reading this because how could he ever hold onto it without breaking it? It looks so precious, and fragile. Even as a child, I can't imagine he would have been small or careful enough to read it. Gently, as if lifting a rose from a vase, I pick up the blush pink volume, marveling at the delightful texture of its silk binding, the title embroidered in gold. While I might not know many words yet, I know enough that I can read the title of this book.

"She's your sister-in-law, after all, and Alvin was gone too soon. Since we're all family, I thought it'd be nice if she became our baby's godmother. What do you think?" I looked him dead in the eye. There wasn't a single shred of guilt in them. He had somehow managed to dress up a shameful affair with his widowed sister-in-law—and their illegitimate child—as nothing more than a benevolent husband showing compassion to a grieving widow. "Sure." I nodded apathetically. Craig nodded in satisfaction before turning around and picking up a thermal flask. He then headed out to get some water. My gaze drifted to the postpartum mesh underwear on my nightstand. It was Verna's size.

"Sure. I'll give it a try." Her eyes lit up. Soon, she pressed her lips together, nodded, and stepped back to the counter. I took a sip, and it felt like warmth had finally settled into a part of me that had stayed cold for a very long time. Just then, my phone buzzed. I glanced at it; the publisher's editor had sent over a draft cover for my new book. The cover featured a gradually brightening deep blue expanse, with the title "Crossing" printed across it.

“Quinn!” Graham opened the door wide and crossed his arms. “Can you not do this!” He shouted. “My mate is acting weird. I need the book now.” Reid said. Quinn entered in her robe and she rolled her eyes then, she pulled out a thick book with a new cover and handed it to him. “Here, dummy.” Quinn rolled her eyes again. “I fixed it into a new cover. “Thanks.” He stood and skimmed on the book. “By the way, there should be some good news when both of you are fucking nonstop.”
